should i read the gay hockey books? i enjoyed the show immensely, but i thought kip had the character development of a bookmark. when he was coming down on the ice i thought “o no scott, your gossamer beefcake might blow away if caught in a light breeze.” now i’ve probably made some enemies with that. but after hearing my only complaint, do you think i should spend my recently unemployed time on these books?
so the thing is kip is mostly (only?) in the FIRST gay hockey book (game changer) that came out before heated rivalry (second gay hockey book) that is all about the skip relationship that I haven’t read and will read because I’m stupid WON’T read because I need to devote my life to things more worthwhile (watching hollanov edits). the second book is basically the show with some bonus scenes (ilya watching fast five on a plane 🫰🏻) and the writing is not great (though I will say people have claimed rachel is worse than ali hazelwood. I disagree! but this might be because I can’t stand ali’s female protagonists)! but having the show and having hudson and connor specifically I think enhances the reading experience, though some of the people I have talked with regretted finishing the book before finishing the show and think they would have enjoyed the cottage more if they had experienced it for the first time just as the show. then you have two books with completely different couples and like a line or two about ilya (because he is rachel reid’s lestat) and a FIFTH book about a different couple but the hockey player in THAT couple (all the other couples are hockey player/non hockey player. reveals a lot about the zip hollanov has the rest just can’t muster) plays on the centaurs with ilya so ilya is there in a more substantial way which is why I might read the fifth before the sixth. and the sixth is just back to hollanov 24/7. and now apparently according to various sources we’re getting a SEVENTH book that will also be. a hollanov book. which is terrifying. but I guess exactly what would happen right now given how much else is happening in This Space. so you could read 1 or 7 books. or any number in between those numbers. but I actually don’t think you would learn any more about kip from reading any of them
