As you can imagine, Taiwan is amazing for rice and noodles but luckily for us, there are a few places that do good bread too! One of those places is Bread, Espresso. It's actually a Japanese cafe that is known for its milk bread and seemed like a perfect place for brunch so last weekend, down we went to try it out.

We will jump right straight in with the french toast which came looking gorgeously golden with a sprinkling of icing sugar. This was a thick piece of toast! It was a little crispy on the edges but the insides were like set custard. This was possibly the best french toast we have had for a very long time! It also came with a really hefty, pretty loaded salad which balanced the incredibly rich french toast.

We also ordered a smoked salmon croissant. While the croissant didn't quite reach the heights of the french toast but was still excellent. It's been hard to find a really good croissant in Taipei but this was up there with the best that we've found. The smoked salmon was also really tasty and went well with the avocado (it is a classic combination for a reason).

We were pretty hungry that day so went ahead and ordered a third plate of food. This was their mentaiko toast. Along with that same salad, we got what looked like half a small loaf of bread topped with mentaiko butter and 2 balls of some sort of strangely white butter or cream - whatever it was, it was creamy, a little buttery and tasted nice. The mentaiko butter had a good amount of mentaiko flavour and with the bread slightly toasted to a nice crisp surrounding a super soft shokupan like bread. Even after having had the french toast and croissant, we got through this awfully quickly!

This place was excellent. We got there pretty early so didn't have to wait too long for a table but we did see bit of a queue forming as we left. They have a bunch of filled breads / pastries that looked very impressive so we will be heading back to give those a go!
