Please clean your bongs/water pieces often! Mildew and mold and all sorts of things can grow in the gross water. Look for small white spots or patches on the glass, this is an indication that something unfriendly and unhealthy - that you don’t want to inhale! - is growing in there.

How to (this is nice and inexpensive!):

I empty my piece out, and pour rubbing alcohol (a good splash), just a little hot water and some table salt (another good amount - this is an exfoliant) inside of it. Then cover the holes and shake (make sure you have a good hold on it) vigorously. Let it sit for a minute then shake again and rinse very well with hot water - let the water run in one hole and out the other for a minute or so. May need to repeat once, or for really dirty pieces, heat up the rubbing alcohol (be very careful doing this) before you put it in and let that sit before adding the salt and hot water.

I would recommend you clean your piece (by AT LEAST replacing the water) weekly (I change mine every couple of days, though!) and do a better scrub down like this monthly.

Q tip your quartz nails! Q tip your quartz nails! You will thank me… and they will last twice as long.

Take a clean q tip within thirty seconds of finishing your dab and wipe it around the inside of the nail. This way you aren’t burning as much oil residue onto your nail next time you heat it up.

And every so often when your nail is completely cooled, dip a q tip in rubbing alcohol and clean the inside of your nail. Sometimes I even heat up a little rubbing alcohol (be careful doing this) and dip the q tip in it then really scrub the nail. It gets so much shit off. Then let it sit for five minutes, and once it is completely dry take your torch to your nail (all around it) for a few seconds in each spot, this will burn off any extra residue and leave your nail looking shiny.
