Not only was this the voice of an oppressed generation, this was also an enabler for us to muster up enough courage to overthrow our real-life dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. It might sound silly as to how a mighty dictator can succumb to an anime about battling robots. But he was worried that the people might get some subversive ideas (most especially on its last few episodes) and decide to copy what the rebels did to the tyrannical Bozanians. Liberation was then achieved in our country and just a classic case of art imitating life and vice versa. This was also a big factor as to why there was a large gap and delay with the anime being played/distributed within the country. A large gap between animes from the late 80's to the early 90's. In hindsight, Voltes V was a darn good show. The monster of the week formula is as tried and tested as pouring milk on a bowl of cereal.
