The James Taylor Quartet - In The Hand Of The Inevitable, 1995. 🎹 I bought this cd in ‘95 during the acid jazz era that produced some really cool bands. This is a great album! 🎹 🎹 🎹 🎹 #cd #jamestaylorquartet #acidjazz #90s #90smusic https://www.instagram.com/p/B_JO44dppIk/?igshid=10ysyb3tv4sxq

James Taylor Quartet @ Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club - March 20, 2013
Although they staying true to the traditional, fundamental elements of jazz, the James Taylor Quartet has furthermore evolved the genre into something that many people can effortlessly fall in love with. Although jazz funk may be the most accurate description in terms of genre, this group of guys could easily appeal to a larger range of audiences who may not even like jazz, funk, or jazz funk. The pairing of the more traditional jazz instruments such as the bass, sax, and trumpet with the electronic Hammond organ takes one step into the jazz funk genre, but the way in which James Taylor thrashes on the Hammond organ with his quick and choppy movements in time goes one step further. As they kept the talking to a minimum and the playing to the absolute maximum, it is easy to see that these four guys genuinely love what they are doing, especially when on the stage.
Additionally, the atmosphere of Ronnie Scott’s provided a marvelous setting in which to take in the brilliance of the James Taylor Quartet. Even having what was called an ‘obstructed view’, we were in a nice spot to take in the ambiance of the place as well as the band. It was also very comfortable in that, even when you wanted to get up and dance but were too afraid to do so in public, you could remain in your seat taking in the exciting movement of the band.
I am not sure if any one word can accurately sum up the James Taylor Quartet. Brilliant. Unique. Exceptional. FUN! I was shockingly surprised as to how much I genuinely liked the four-piece jazz funk band. I would LOVE to see the James Taylor Quartet again. Although if I do and it is at Ronnie Scott’s, I will need to be out of college and in a generously paid career so I can afford the £10 gin & tonics.
