Proving Ground
Fat on blood and glory, the vampire army marched toward its next target: the walled city of Draumverg. The walls had been erected relatively recently in defense from the demons that now plagued every corner of Nosgoth. As the army approached under cover of the new moon, they found Draumverg’s wall alight with torch fire and studded with surly men in heavy plate. This time they had been expected.
Draumverg might have had a numerical advantage, but numbers meant little against an army of the damned. Even a young vampire could easily overpower three humans at once. Undeterred, the army advanced on the walls.
Suddenly the gates began to creak. Chains rattled and gears turned, raising the porticullis. The army momentarily halted. Was this surrender?
Two massive red demons barreled out of the gate. The doors slammed and the porticullis dropped like a guillotine, sealing the army’s fate. As the twin demons charged the front ranks broke in a panic. Flaming arrows flew from the rampart, scattering the army further. Only two vampires stood their ground against the demons: Vorador, in the form of a great black wolf, and Kain, wielding the legendary Soul Reaver. While they battled the demons, Kain’s lieutenants struggled to return the army to order under the rain of fire.
