Jaein Falls
Jaein Falls claims the top spot among the Seven Scenic Views of Yeoncheon. The erupting of a volcano thousands of years ago has sunk a flatland and carved this scenic waterfall.
The waterfall stands at 18.5 m and spans 30 m. Viewed from the observation platform, the water collects into a beautiful emerald basin. One must climb down a steep flight of stairs to come close to the foot of the waterfall.
The name Jaein (clown) was derived from a local folklore about a tightrope walker with a beautiful wife. One day, the tightrope walker was engaging in an act on the rope tied to the ravine and the administrator, who was secretly attracted to his wife, had one of his men cut the rope.
