ive never seen dungeon meshi ive only absorbed knowledge from friends and tumblr and this has been surprisingly effective except for what its actually like to sit and watch an episode so heres what i imagine its like
episode begins. the party is walking through a dungeon. laios is infodumping about a monster. his infodump subject turns out to be the monster of the week. they all have to fight it which becomes a glorious mix of worldbuilding, displays of unique characterization, and dnd fight sequence. once the battle is over senshi is like ok its time to make some food. the entire tone of the show transitions from dnd monster of the week anime to cooking show in record time. the production the music the cinematography the dialogue everything suddenly has become the mysterious cryptid cooking show that comes on the cooking show channel at 3 am at your grandmas house when you stay there for a week during the summer and never can find again to prove its existence. and then they eat their weird meal. however all is not cleanly tied up at the end. the threads of the overarching plot make themselves visible one last time before the episode ends.
