most of the way through the song "House of Leaves" from Poe's 2000 album Haunted, you can hear a voice say through the noise "no one should brave the underworld alone." this is a line directly from the title track of Poe's previous 1995 album, Hello, spoken by her real-life brother, Mark Z. Danielewski. this line forms a thematic connection between the two works that extends through to Mark's novel, House of Leaves (written concurrently with Haunted and considered by both artists to be part of a commensurate whole), and serves as a turning point or sort of climax of the album. today it is humid and my hair is poofy and I want to hang out with my friends.
