i think about Vic so often, him and his weird functional immortality because his wizard best friend is so very smart, which means he can be around when his other functionally immortal (in a different way) Important People go through their whole multiple lives thing and it's. wild, it's so much

(em said everdin would've tried to find some druid or something to cast reincarnate to try and get vic a lifespan that would at least match this particular life everdin has rn which like. i'm so normal about them, but it's fine we've got Clone instead, you're not getting rid of this face even after you get a new one my guy)

((also what do you do when your old military partner/best friend/guy you were definitely in love with but didn't realize it kinda. died. and then came back as a goblin girl after you'd finally managed to work out this weird relationship with the guy who tried to kill you when you met. it's weird. consecution is weird.))

he's got a friend who is immortal (/kinda undead) unwillingly, and another friend who is trying to figure out whether she wants that sort of thing or not. and then friends who are actually managing relatively very normal lives as like, children's book authors. and sometimes they all manage to meet up for dinner and drinks and reminisce about that time they fought a god together.

and i love them.

and ALSO none of my players (who don't already know the basics of the plot) are on here so GOD I LOVE PLAYING JACK AGAIN even just as a very plot driving NPC, boy literally sold his own life to bring back his sister in a world where Death does not give up what it's taken, and now has to deal with this whole. kind of a cult (it's a cult) to help release the guy who can literally defy Death itself

and Jack really just wants to be able to research the planes and figure out how his actual lycanthropy interacts with the lycan bloodhunter stuff and he got to infodump a little bit about plane stuff in the last session when someone asked if Blink counts as going into other planes and it was just. such a shift, he loves that sort of thing, and sure it is relevant to what he's doing right now but it's also involving all this sketchy shit and he's just. stuck in it and ough I'm really excited for the party to talk to him more.

58: what do they think their role in the party is? what is their role in actuality? Vic considers himself the tank, even if he isn't technically the sturdiest of the party (though even that's questionable, he doesn't have the highest hp but he also has the damage resistance when raging) and essentially just. The one to take hits that were aimed at other people, and he's good at that. It's fairly accurate tbh, but he does also have the benefit of some elemental damage variety that the others might not and his main specialty is wildly inconveniencing whatever they're fighting, whether it's with his pseudo-echoes or reckless attacks or even manacles of weakening. It's not as necessary as it was in the hell dungeon but he also sees himself as the one who can make the moves that the others have moral objections to making, because sometimes they need to be done and he's gotten his hands dirty enough already, what's a little more? And that too is. accurate. if not good.

👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?

Vic is very close to his family. Parents still alive and well and genuinely lovely people, two younger siblings who are off doing things that make him ridiculously proud, aunts and uncles and cousins in the city, like. the boy's got Family. He's very aware how lucky he is for it.

Jack hasn't spoken to his family in multiple years, but not because of any real animosity. His parents did as well as any couple can when their son is born completely blind and starts explaining that there's a monster that talks to him by the time he's like, three. I think he's got a younger sister he was pretty close to, but it's definitely preferable to keep his family out of...y'know. All This. He wants to go back to visit some day. He just doesn't know where to start explaining.

🍩 DONUT - favourite sweet treat?

Vic doesn't have much of a sweet tooth in general, so tbh his favorite kind of defaults to whatever it is Dolly has made most recently just because it's a friend that made it.

Jack likes hard candy. Helps him focus.

🌺 HIBISCUS - do they have any allergies?

APPARENTLY vic's allergic to something, I think we as players decided it was like, legumes of some kind, but he's not even sure still, he hasn't exactly been back to that specific place in Pride's Call.

I feel like Jack would be allergic to latex. Which doesn't really apply here.

⚾ BASEBALL - can they play sports? what is their best position if they play a team sport? what's their strong suit (speed, power etc.)?

Vic would be pretty good at rugby I think. Good combination of constant movement and the occasional very hard hits. He can be fast sometimes, and also has that 18str to make sure he Keeps Moving.

Jack is. Not a sporty guy. He likes fishing.

👖 JEANS - what is their go-to outfit?

If he doesn't need armor, for Vic any kind of comfortable pants and a light shirt, with his coat either as a full coat or sans the sleeves depending on what the weather's like.

Jack defaults to fantasy business casual. He likes button-up shirts either with a vest or suspenders, something close to slacks, and nothing ever matches unless Ainori gives him a hand with it

🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem?

Vic would sacrifice the one for the many only if the one was himself. Otherwise he would refuse to play along. (Otherwise it's definitely sacrificing many for the one, i mean come on, he's a self-appointed bodyguard)

Jack is absolutely the many for the one route. Not that he has much choice in the matter, but he'll look after the few he can.

🌈 RAINBOW - what advice would they give to their younger self?

vic: oh my god you are the most unobservant dumbass -- yes he is your partner yes he is your best friend you are also absolutely in love with him kiss the stupid wizard

jack's is. darker than i expected the more i think about it, but putting that one aside, he'd probably advise not to bother with the bloodhunter guild. Hell of a lot of good that whole process did.

💓 BEATING HEART - what gets their heart racing?

Other than the obvious for both of them with. combat. etc.

Extended awkward social situations for Vic, he is overly aware of his tendency to start rambling and when he notices it gets worse and just devolves from there. Also watching powerful mages do magic.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

Vic was made specifically for a Wildemount game, and specifically to be an echo knight (just because I wanted to play one of the fancy new subclasses). Everything kind of stemmed from his class originally -- the fact that he was from the Dynasty and that he'd been a soldier with a partner, etc. His inciting backstory came from the very important question of "why would an echo knight be wandering around in Shadycreek?"

Jack wasn't even supposed to be the pseudo-PC he is now, he was just one of nine betrayer god champion NPCs and then I got attached. I did help make many of them, though, and iirc the first thing we decided about Jack was that he was Just A Guy. Just a human man who happened to be the champion of Gruumsh. And also that he was blind because y'know. Gruumsh has one eye.

Hali is also for a specific Wildemount game (the same one Jack is involved with) so they kinda initially got built around which god they work for. Ended up a good deal more complex than that, but the idea of a god kinda running out of options and saying "yeah sure you'll do" made for a very...interesting character.

☄️ COMET - what do people assume about them? are they right?

I think people assume Vic to just be the muscle, and tbh they used to be pretty right about that. He can do a lot more than just hit things with swords these days, but he still sees himself primarily as the protection for the ones doing the more complex work.

Jack is very good at making people see him as nothing but a very polite, blind, young man. Pretty capable of getting around by himself, but usually grateful for a helping hand anyway. And dear god most assumptions about him are incredibly wrong. I mean, he can certainly be polite and well-mannered and also he can commit one-man atrocities five minutes later.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?) Vic is great with kids in general, he grew up with a lot of kids of different ages in the neighborhood and his dad tended to be the go-to babysitter. Kids are fun! They're kind of breakable but he has practice from his own little siblings on spotting bad ideas before they end poorly and he's got plenty of energy and fun stories. In the long run though. He's very wary of the concept of his own kids. He fully understands what a lifetime commitment it is and doesn't know where he's gonna be next week let alone the next few years. Vic knows what good parents look like, and he knows he doesn't have the stability to manage it. Isn't sure if he ever will. He'll be the fun uncle to his friends' kids (and potentially his siblings' eventually) but for the moment that's all he's comfortable with.

Jack is. Solidly Okay. He wouldn't go out of his way to deal with kids, he doesn't consider himself a good influence and there's just…not many good sides to it. In a pinch he could keep a kid alive but why would anyone do that to him. or them.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?) Very affectionate guy! Vic loves his friends and is more than happy to show it, he'll hug anyone and lean on people and do the casual kiss on the head (especially since he's taller than most of his friends), like. He's pretty physical in general, and it's nice when that doesn't involve fighting. He also likes to buy people things. It's a novelty that he can now, and not like he has a ton of use for excess money so y'know, need some spell components or new gear or lunch, Vic will absolutely cover it

In an ideal world, Jack would be a good deal more affectionate than he is. He's a tactile person and used to be very much the type to like holding someone's arm or even a hand because as well as he can get around on his own, it's nice to not have to think about it as much. As it is, the vast majority of the time he's impressively closed off. Can't let any weaknesses show, obviously, and Ainori is the only one who sees any differently.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?) Vic's still got the habit of having an arm over his eyes when he first falls asleep -- held over from the time sleeping outside in the mountains, most often through the day. Other than that he really just. Passes out very quickly, because sleep is a very valuable resource and who knows when something is gonna barge in and interrupt it

Jack needs it as quiet as possible to actually sleep well, which is much easier when there are sound-dampening spells on his room. Otherwise he might unconsciously end up with his head under a pillow to block out as much as he can. He also tends to take up a lot more room than you'd expect.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?) In general, he doesn't like deep water anymore, or relatedly, boats. Once he figures out what it was he was allergic to that one time I imagine he'll attempt to avoid that. Also really doesn't like the gods' apparent habit of using people and then just dropping them when it's gotten inconvenient. In a partner. Hm. Recently he's figured out he doesn't like any... obligation to stay in one place. Obviously the disdain for the Empire remains strong. There's probably plenty of little things but Vic doesn't exactly have much experience in that regard.

Jack Fischer (he/him), resident blind lycan bloodhunter and reluctant champion of Gruumsh

Grew up a relatively normal Zemnian kid (apart from the whole being born blind thing), son of a fisherman, incredibly bright -- enough so to realize very early on that the "monster" that kept talking to him was probably a lot more real than your average kid's fears.

Jack eventually sought out a guild of self-proclaimed monster hunters who walked on the edge of being monsters themselves to manage it. The entire process with the lycanthropy was successful. The realization that the voice actually belonged to a betrayer god made it seem a bit like a moot point.

He may or may not have committed uhhh Multiple murders, but y'know, shit happens and sometimes you just gotta make the best of the cards you've been dealt. He loves accessible libraries and cooking and his girlfriend Ainori who is incidentally in a very similar situation. Currently helping the rest of the betrayer champions look for certain artifacts and trying to figure out why the hell his specific weapon is sometimes a ranged one.

🌸 What are some of their favourite things and why? List as many as you can think of! Jack - as mentioned, cooking (easy to learn but takes skill to do really well, and has a very useful end result). Accessible libraries (he appreciates people willing to read through super boring historical records for him but he much prefers to read it himself). Swimming (he grew up right next to a lake, it's mandatory). Crappy historical romance books (do not require Effort). Any day he gets to go out and do normal things and not deal with Gruumsh nagging him about anything. Ainori. Both self explanatory.

🌳 What is your OC’s favourite way to relax after a stressful day? Do they have a favourite book to curl up with? A hobby? Or do they have a nice bubble bath and have an early night to bed? Vic generally defaults to either studying or training -- if it hasn't been too stressful of a day it's effective, sometimes it turns into just working himself too tired to do anything but go to bed. At this point working on his small list of spells is as much of a hobby as the boy's got, and at the very least it's good for getting his mind at least focused on one thing.

Jack usually just wants quiet. His own room is ideal for it with the noise-dampening magic and occasionally he'll have a new book that isn't solely for research that also doesn't require someone else to read it to him. He'd also take, as cliche as it seems, a walk down the beach, away from the city and big ports. Nearly anything that doesn't involve work is a good change of pace.

💐 How does your OC handle being unwell or forced to rest in bed? Who cares for them and in what ways? Does your OC enjoy being doted on or are they a terrible patient? Reversed: is your OC good at taking care of others who are ill or in need? Vic is a pain in the ass, simply because he refuses to let it show until it's bad enough to actually impair him. He can push through getting stabbed, obviously he can work through a cold. and of course in his usual bit of hypocrisy he is determined that other people rest Immediately when sick. He might be a bit awkward trying to take care of anyone himself, but he'll make sure Someone does

Jack knows his limits. He grew up with parents who were always just at the edge of overbearing so he's used to people fretting (uses it to his advantage sometimes) and would only be tempted to punch a few people for it these days. He's efficient and knows when pushing through would just slow him down for even longer. Not terrible at taking care of other people, but again, it really depends on who it is. Alder can suck it up.

💫What is your favourite fact about this character and why? Vic...god after more than two years it is very hard to pick. I think a strong contender at least is just how consistently excited he is to learn new things. Vic was like that when he had 9 intelligence and he's still like that with 18 intelligence, whether it's new bits of magic or a new game or just random skills. He's been through A Lot of shit but he still just really loves new things.
