“I’m coming, I’m coming--” Sawyer yelled across the empty apartment, bare feet padding their way to the front door and the impatient asshole on the other side of it. She’d barely gotten out of the shower when the knocking started; not expecting anybody, Sawyer had simply ignored it, thinking it to be a solicitor, or a drunk neighbor stumbling their way home. She’d taken her time in slipping into her pajamas and throwing her wet hair into a towel, but the knocking persisted, louder and more rapid with each second that passed. Jesus fucking Christ, she’d called, eyes rolling as her toothbrush slammed back into its place on her bathroom counter. Could a girl not go through her nighttime routine in peace?
“Can I fucking help you?” The words left her mouth before she’d even fixed her eyes on who stood on the other side of the door, but once they adjusted, no part of her felt guilty about them. Her eyebrows raised curiously at the sight of Jace at her doorstep, arms crossing over her chest--defensive on instinct. It didn’t used to be that way. “He’s not here.” So far, having Atlas as a roommate had minimal issues. This, unfortunately, just happened to be one of them.
