Hi! So I know you like spardacest, I was wondering what are your thoughts on dante/nero, vergil/nero and dante/vergil/nero?
I generally tend to be a multishipper so Iâm not married to one particular dynamic over the others, but I do heavily favor nero/dante/vergil because in general I have a thing for Terrible Fucked-Up Polycules (and a terrible fucked-up polycule with a weird age gap and weird family dynamics because they're all *gasp* related?? god they're all terrible and I want to study them like bugs). I do have very specific thoughts on what I think their dynamics in this Terrible Fucked-Up Polycule are like, so I will share them below:
Dante and Vergil
Among demons, twins are very rare. Demons tend to have huge litters with the hopes that a small percentage of the offspring will survive to adulthood, so having that few nestlings is almost unheard of. When twins are born, and both of them survive long enough to reach adulthood, they tend to gravitate towards each other and will often become matesâthere's no taboo against incest as demons have a very different code of morality and don't reproduce the same way as humans do. Dante and Vergil are no exception. They were absolutely inseparable as kids (although they did try to maim each other a lot), they were both absolutely devastated when they lost each other for over three decades (although Vergil will never admit this out loud), and they are inseparable after they're reunited in DMC5. It's to the point where they barely let each other out of their sight, and often get irritable and antsy when they're forced to be apart for more than like an hour. and yes this includes going to the bathroom because they're weird like that.
Dante is very outwards about his affection, though he tones it down in public because being in a committed romantic relationship with your twin brother is generally frowned upon by humans. Vergil claims to only tolerate it, although secretly he enjoys it when Dante casually hugs and kisses him. It's not uncommon to see them cuddled up together on the couch when Vergil has a bad pain day (I hc he has chronic pain from all the torture he went through but that's another post), or for them to fall asleep on each others' shoulders. They're like a bonded pair of cats with separation anxiety.
Dante and Nero
It's my personal headcanon that in demonic society there is a) no taboo against incest, and b) a general culture of "if you can defeat me in a duel then you have proved yourself as a worthy mate and have earned the privilege of bearing young with me." Nero, as we all know, beat the shit out ofâand got the shit beat out of him byâDante multiple times. Internally, his demonic side has fully decided that Dante is now his mate, but Nero is in denial tries to dismiss these Weird Feelings as hero worship with a dash of a desire for a father figure. Hell, he probably thought Dante was his dad for a while. He spent the entire five years between 4 and 5 awkwardly following Dante around like a lost puppy, and when he finally breaks down post-DMC5 and tells KyriĂŠ, she just kinda laughs and goes oh yeah I knew. yeah you weren't exactly subtle. no I don't mind if you sleep with your two living blood relatives I'm literally your sister and I've been friends with benefits with Nico for forever. go get em tiger.
Dante, on the other hand, is desperately trying to Be Normal around Nero, because he really wants this kid to have a shot at some semblance of a normal human life (which Dante himself never got). For a while he plays the part of the distant and emotionally unavailable father, because he doesn't want to risk anything happening if Nero gets too close to him. He feels so, so guilty, keeps trying to convince himself that these Weird Feelings are just because he sees Vergil in Nero, but ultimately, he loves his nephew in a way that's definitely not appropriate by human standards. He hates it so goddamn much that he wants to cry.
Nero and Vergil
Nero is understandably a little iffy around his dad, mostly because of the whole "ripping off my arm and summoning an evil blood-sucking tree to our plane of existence" thing. However, Nero is also a genuinely nice and good-hearted person. He can see that having Vergil around makes Dante the happiest he's ever seen him, and so he's willing to tolerate him. He also wants to get to know Vergil too, deep down, and although the motherfucker is absolutely infuriating at times, Nero endures the awkwardness. It takes a while for them to warm up to each other, but once they do, it's almost creepy how well they work together. There's also the whole "if you beat the shit out of me then you're now my mate" thing, as well as the "you're my dad and I want your approval" thing, but Nero doesn't like thinking about that for too long.
Vergil, meanwhile, is... cautious. As V, he assumed that Nero was Dante's kid, so he's a little startled to find out that some fluke one-night-stand back when he was like. nineteen. turned out to produce a kid. Vergil also has no idea how to live like a human being rather than like a cornered rat a demon, so he's very awkward and avoidant a lot of the time. Sure, Nero is his son, but he's also very human. The demon in him might've decided after their duel that Nero is worthy of being his mate alongside Dante, but the human part of Vergilâwhich he's been trying to listen to more oftenâdoesn't want his Weird Demon Shit to drive a wedge between Nero and the human family he's built. He cares for his son deeply and wants to try and give the kid a proper education in the Demon Things that he missed out on as a nestling, but he also doesn't want to inflict Nero with any more undue suffering. and yeah. he does feel a little bad about the arm thing. but he'll never admit it.
All this to say, I think Nero has to be the one to corner the twins and get them to admit how they feel about him, after which he promptly invites himself into their relationship. Dante is mortified. Vergil is very proud of his son for "allowing his instincts to guide him" and "taking what he is rightfully owed." Nero is really fucking annoyed that he's somehow the most mature and emotionally stable member of his family despite being in his twenties.

Vashâs love language is physical touch. Naiâs is also physical touch (as well as acts of service), but he refuses to admit this. yes they sleep in a Snuggle Pile whenever they camp out in a tent.
Neither of the twins actually need to eat, but Vash likes to because he enjoys human food and eating makes him feel more like one himself. Nai usually doesnât eat but occasionally caves if Vash nags him enough.
(Nai secretly really likes some human foods he just has about 9857349754709 tons of trauma and baggage that he's been ignoring)
Another one of the twins' love languages: BITING THE SHIT OUT OF EACH OTHER
Vash is covered in scars from all the years he's spent sacrificing and martyring himself for humanity. The only scars that Nai has is the ones he got protecting his little brother.
The twins really like the rare rainstorms on Gunsmoke, and often take specific routes during their travels to follow low pressure systems
Vash unfortunately deals with a lot of chronic pain from his scars and injuries. when he's having a bad pain day Nai will proceed to cuddle him and make him food while calling him a Stupid Dumb Fucking Idiot
They do the typical sibling thing where their dynamic fluctuates wildly between "I love you and I would kill and die for you" and "if you even BREATHE in my direction I will strangle your ass" but they have to be careful because their sibling fights have resulted in multiple explosions and/or the leveling of a small town
Nai has stolen Vash's prosthetic arm multiple times and hidden it because he lost an argument and didn't want to apologize
Vash = dog autism
Nai = cat autism
Occasionally Vash will get himself in a fight and Nai will stand there and watch him get the shit beat out of him instead of helping (if you yourself have siblings you will understand EXACTLY why lmao)
Vash has had many a human lover throughout his long life. every single time Nai will sit him down and show him the "why humans suck and why your new S.O. is a fucking trilobite" powerpoint presentation. not ONCE has Vash actually paid attention
Vash smokes because it reminds him of when he was Eriks, which was one of the few times he's really felt at peace. Nai hates that Vash smokes, but somehow new packs of cigarettes keep mysteriously appearing in his bag whenever he mentions he's running low.
Nai actually cried from joy and gratitude when Vash bought him a new computer (Vash does not have the heart to tell him that the only reason he did was because he stole Nai's old computer to watch porn, accidentally downloaded a shitton of viruses, then panicked and punched a hole in the computer screen)
Because they're Plants, the twins have a kind of weird psychic mental link
Vash will project the most random repetitive shit through their link sometimes just to annoy Nai for no reason. no one else can hear it so sometimes humans will see these two grown ass men standing next to each other in silence until the scary-looking one in the white cloak out of nowhere just whips around and screeches "STOP FUCKING SINGING THE GODDAMN HAMSTER DANCE SONG IN YOUR HEAD"
