I could see it going either way, honestly. I think they’re both the kind of people who would love having kids, but who wouldn’t necessarily feel like something was missing from their lives if they didn’t. You know?

That said, their kids would definitely be adorable and scary smart, and Jeff does have a name all picked out and everything. ;) I’ve seen some really great headcanons about Jeff and Annie as parents (this one and this one from @sy5starplaty​ come to mind), and although I’m not a huge fan of kidfic in general I have read some outstanding ones featuring them, including a bunch by @pepperf​, among which I especially love Home, And Then We’d Be Happy, and the Darkest Timeline fic collection. And whenever anyone mentions “Jeff and Annie” and “babyfic” in the same sentence, I always think of @loveyourskinnyties​‘s anything’s righter than books could plan, which is clearly an AU but so wonderful it makes me cry every time I read it.

To sum up, there’s fic out there to feed any dad!Jeff and mom!Annie needs, and I’m not especially invested in any particular outcome. I have kids, and I love being a mom, even though it’s the hardest job I’ve ever had; but I know that being a parent is not for everyone, and that it’s entirely possible to live a happy, fulfilled life without ever raising a kid.

I think it’s a pretty fair bet they had sex, probably? :) Other than that, I don’t know! This is why I’m a beta reader and not a writer. When I try to think up stories, I draw a total blank. Sometimes headcanons and ideas sneak up on me as long as I don’t look directly at them, but that’s the best I can do.

Generally, I like the idea that by the one-year point they’ve acknowledged out loud that things are serious, that they’re it for each other. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that they’ve moved in with each other by now. They might have a cat, or a dog. (I like @hello-wright-or-wrong‘s headcanon that they both love dogs, and I also like @catty-words‘s idea that they go to the shelter to look at dogs and get adopted by a cat while they’re there.) Jeff has definitely been in therapy and they might not both have their dream jobs yet but they’re working on it and they see their Greendale family often and they’re happy.

(Imagine me sticking my tongue out at DHarms.)

Post-series headcanons are fine! But an example of a headcanon that takes place during the series would be, oh, let’s see, I’ll come up with one right now:

Abed somehow acquired keys to everyone’s apartments/homes over the years, except Jeff’s apartment. But Annie actually had a spare key Jeff gave her once for some reason or other, and he “forgot” to ask for it back, and she “forgot” to give it back. It wasn’t like she used it for booty calls or anything, it was just another key on her keyring that reminded her that Jeff trusted her, and made her think she wasn’t crazy, that Jeff really did feel something for her.

If you’re asking me for super-detailed scenarios, you’re asking the wrong person. There’s a reason I beta-read fanfiction, and don’t write it. :) But I can probably ramble for a few paragraphs, at least.

Basically, I think they stayed in touch and talked a lot while Annie was in DC. Their goodbye at the airport was WAY too casual and calm and smiley for ‘I’ll talk to you in ten weeks, person whom I’ve been in unrequited love with for the past six years’; it was more like ‘I’ll text you when I land/talk to you soon/see you when you come visit me in a few weeks/pick you up when you fly back to Colorado’. When Annie did get back I think she was probably like, listen buddy I have waited for six years and we are not getting any younger, NOW KISS ME. And he obviously was like, okay then if you’re sure, and kissed her.

So they’ve been together for a year now, more or less, and in addition to being in a healthy and supportive relationship, Jeff has been in therapy with Annie’s encouragement to deal with his shit and to figure out if he wants to keep teaching or do something else with his life. The important part is, he’s starting to believe he deserves to do something with his life that makes him happy, partly because Annie believes that, and she’s the smartest person he knows, so he figures he should probably listen to her. They’re happy and love each other and pretty much expect to stay together. Annie’s not bothered about marriage because she knows Jeff has issues and anyway she’s learned to plan ahead while still taking things one day at a time, but Jeff’s already started thinking about asking Annie to marry him, someday. He’s still not totally convinced she’d say yes, but she will, eventually.

They hang out with their Greendale friends when they can, and of course Britta and Annie are still roommates which is somehow (weirdly) still working really well. Troy is definitely back from his world cruise by now, and after a brief stay with Annie and Britta in Apartment 303, he probably made his way to L.A. and is living with Abed, where they’re watching TV and making movies and just generally being their awesome selves. 

The remaining Greendale Seven (plus Frankie and Craig and Duncan) all have a group text/chat thing and send each other photos and have weird conversations all the time. (Chang isn’t part of the group text/chat thing because Jeff threatened to murder anyone who even hinted to Chang that it existed, and Elroy is technically part of it but he almost never participates. Occasionally he’ll send photos of weird sculptures he comes across.)

Emotional First-Aid For Amateur Busybodies by @pepperf​: School’s out and Annie’s going away and nothing really matters. Which doesn’t explain why he’s awake at 2 a.m. worrying about it all. (This is really only set in the week between the finale and Annie going off to DC, but it sets the tone for how Jeff and Annie intend to move forward.)
