You folks seem to know quite a bit about classes and homebrews! For one of my campaigns, I have a player playing a Paladin. We discussed a fun idea in which the character ceases to be a Paladin after a traumatic event and becomes a Blood Hunter. I don't want the player to have to start from square one as a Blood Hunter, though - Should they keep their Paladin skills but stop leveling up as a Paladin, or should they get rid of all their Paladin skills and then start from square one, or what?
i’d either handle it as they multiclass into a blood hunter, keeping what they know from their paladin levels but now going on to learn blood hunter stuff. Or if you think it would make sense, then let them trade in levels of paladin for blood hunter levels. In one campaign i’m running Nix‘s character started out as a sorcerer, but after some stuff happened wanted to start taking warlock levels, so i let him go from a 5th level sorcerer to a 1st level sorcerer with 4 warlock levels the next time he leveled up, because his new patron had the power to do that transfer. It’s really up to you but those are the best options in my opinion.
