This is what to expect next... LAKBAY NORTE 3: REDISCOVER THE NORTH!

To give you a brief background, Lakbay Norte 3 is an eight-day Media Familiarization Tour of North Philippines held last January 22-29, 2012. Twenty-three media participants boarded a Victory Liner bus and explored Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Baguio, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Subic, Clark, and Pampanga.

Luckily, being the Marketing Researcher of Victory Liner, Inc., I was fortunate enough to join the said activity; represent Victory Liner, Inc., experience the fun and adventure of each destinations, and most of all, learn new things that made me the person of today.

Indeed, it was a life-changing experience! Really, it's more fun in the Philippines!

Good day to everyone! A year ago, this site was completely committed only for submission of academic requirements in our humanities class...

But hey, I think its time for change. Please allow me to use this page now as my blog site featuring my adventures while I travel up north via a Victory Liner bus, my experiences during the SEED Program held last August 2014, and perhaps, all the things that I am about to experience, to learn from, and to make me a better person as a whole.

              I’ll be honest and clear as possible as I can be. I used Google to research about the movie since I was not able to finish the latter part of the film viewing. Nonetheless, I’ll make my own critique based on my personal view and interpretation of the movie.

              Description. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a country so rich yet there are dark places that makes the irony of it. The true-to-life movie depicts the peoples’ wrong way of life in a slum area, Cicade de Deus, commonly known as the “City of God” vis-à-vis the other glamorous cities of Brazil. The elements of drugs, crimes, sex, violence, and lawlessness are among the subjects that director Fernando Meirelles would like to expose. Two lives are being shown here in the character of Rocket, the photographer who wants to have a better life, and Lil‘Ze, the man who hungers for power through guns, drugs and dominance over his peers.

              As to the quality of the movie, on a scale of 1 – 10, 10 being the highest, I would rate it 10. The director was able to deliver the entirety of the movie, from the right choice of characters, cinematography, production design, editing, setting, background music and story-line.

              Interpretation. God gave each and every person his/her own intellect, and free-will. Man was given the power to choose good over evil, strength over weakness, courage over cowardice, and appreciating the beauty of life over hopelessness, ugliness, and the dark side of life.

              The movie shows children being exploited by letting them smoke, carry guns, drug carriers, and exposed to violence. In effect, their distorted outlook seemed to be righteous for them. To these children, it is just a way of life. Well in fact, it is the opposite. Well, this is a classic example of violation of Barthes theory.

              Criticism. The negative aspect of life that surrounds us is not an excuse for us not to rise up from the said negativity. As the saying goes, “Hope springs eternal.” As long as man lives, he can progress his life and he is the only one who could change himself.

  In the case of Rocket, he exemplifies the people of today who longs for improving the social status in life. He is the typical person who can rise up from the stereotyped dark side of life. In my opinion, this is where the appreciation of the beauty of life comes in. Who would choose dangerous over peaceful life? Of course, we would side on the latter.  

  On the other hand, the character of Lil’Ze epitomizes the self-centered, power-hungry, notorious, immoral man with no regards on values of life. People of today, such as power-hungry politicians, king makers, drug lords, corrupt government officials, etc. are the type of persons that the producer and director of the movie is trying to touch and hopefully, send out the message.

  There are brilliant men and women out there who grew up in extreme poverty but they eventually emerged victoriously and grew up successfully in their own fields of endeavor. They did not allow poverty to hinder their growth but instead poverty inspired them to quest for a better life.
