One minute Alecta had been doing what she had promised-cleaning up, making dinner, and then she was going to make cupcakes too. She had been in the middle of trying to find the damn spatula that always went missing, and then nothing. It was like being hit by a freight train, going from complete peace to complete chaos. She wasn’t sure who yelled, but it hadn’t been her. That much she knew. It wasn’t hard to miss the destruction when she looked out the window at the buildings all up in flames. It was common sense to go. Get out. Everything told her to, and yet she turned to find where Watson had gone in all the noise. Everything was burning, but the shock of it didn’t let her really think  about everything she would have been worried about otherwise. Where were her friends at then? Where was- The sudden realization and Alecta was quick to scoop up Watson from his hiding spot under the coffee table and grab her phone from the counter. “Answer your phone answer your phone,” Alecta muttered, hearing it ring and ring, but Seth’s voice didn’t answer on the other end.
The fires were relentless, and she became vaguely aware of smoke under her own door. There wasn’t another choice but to go, but there was at least one thing she wasn’t ditching the apartment without. Charlie’s baby blanket. With Watson in her arms and scrambling to grab the one truly important thing, she was hoping her phone would ring and it would be fine. It didn’t, and things were worse outside than she had seen from inside the safety of her own apartment. Not that it was that safe anymore. She couldn’t stand even bothering to look. She didn’t want to see if she saw anyone dead that she knew or something that would pull her back. Her worries were with whether Seth was alright or not, but he would have left too wouldn’t he? With that hope in mind she didn’t bother with her car. Vampire speed came in handy at least sometimes, and it was easier to bypass the destruction and get herself to the edge of town. The sight wasn’t any better though. She was watching her home burn.
