This is why we need to expand the court.
They serve for life. 5 of the 6 justices who voted for this were appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote. (The 6th has a wife who helped plan the attempted coup and has openly said that he wants to roll back birth control and lgbt rights protections) And they will serve for life.
Gingsberg was 87 when she died. Thomas and Alito are both more than a decade away from that. All of Trumps appointments are *30 years* from that point.
This court will wreck havoc, will spiral us back decades *for decades* (regardless of midterms and presidential elections, completely out of the touch of the voters) unless we add more members to the bench to mitigate this. (Or change how the bench functions, but that's a much much much bigger task.) We've expanded the bench before (it originally only had 6)
I know we always want to be conscious of precedent, and that anything we can weaponize in our favor right now can be weaponized against us later. I know. I know. So maybe that expansion needs to come with a "every time we reach X population we expand the court", or "every X number of years we expand the court" to try to stem that some.
But it is *insanity* that the fucker who lost the popular vote and then attempted a coup when he lost a second time gets to appoint ONE THIRD of the bench for them to serve for 30-ish years. It is insanity.
Also, I will never forgive Mitch McConnell for what he did to Merrick Garland. On a long list of sins, that one? That one is at the top.
