Ummmmmmmmm okay thinking about how you never thought Itoshi Sae liked kids and you never thought you did either. Sae always held up his usual cold demeanor in public even with giddy screaming kids who want his autograph. He even tells you after those moments happen that he never understands why kids like him so much, and quite frankly you can say the same about yourself.
But for some reason, lately you swear you've seen his stoic front crack one two many times. You two start going to parks and beaches during the summer and a bunch of kids are always present. You see it every time you guys pass by parents holding their kids' hand, or kids just laughing jubilantly on the street-- the small, barely noticeable smile that creeps up on Sae's face.
Hell, you guys weren't even married. Why were you thinking of this anyway? It must be some silly, delirious romantic effect that the universe has on you to finally think maybe you'd want that life. You think it's just futile in all honesty; Sae probably never thought of being a father or anything else besides soccer and you. You wouldn't give Sae up for the world, even if it meant letting go on experiencing that domestic dream you never in a million years thought you would've wanted. You could live with that, but you couldn't live without him.
And it may have been an accident; you standing here reminiscing on how you felt while staring at your daughter sleeping soundly in Sae's arms after a long day out. He runs his fingers through her reddish-brown hair careful not to move and wake her. She reacts, snuggling unconsciously into her fathers warmth. And there it is again-- that small, barely noticeable smile.
You giggle softly at the sight of your daughter mirroring the same upturn on Sae's lips-- she must be dreaming. She doesn't know how much you love that smile, how you'd never give up any of this for the world even if you didn't ask for it.
You both didn't ask for it: a small family, just the three of you. You lock eyes, and you both know that you definitely don't want any more. This is enough.
In fact, you realize it's all you've ever wanted.
