Hi Ito!!!
Do you have any manga recommendations? I’m trying to get into my manga flow cause it’s my favorite type of media (and I also sort of dream of making my own one day) so I wanted to ask you!!!!! Any genre is fine btw but I already read all of the popular ones (like csm or jjk and other like that) so im looking for something less known.
I hope this ask won’t be a trouble and have a nice and easy day!!!!!
I do, I have a lot :D
Some of my favourites include (i only included one shonen, since you've already read some major ones):
Look Back (One of Fujimoto's other works, I literally think about it once a week)
Goodnight Punpun (admitedly one of my favourite pieces of media ever, but very hard to stomach, do check the trigger warnings first)
Choujin X (the current and very underrated work of Sui Ishida, the mangaka of Tokyo Ghoul)
Blue Period (you will see a motif of me liking art about art...)
The Summer Hikaru Died (as far as I've read it was pretty amazing, and there was also an anime adaptation of it this year, though I haven't seen it I heard very good things)
Gyo (preffered this to other Ito works. Junji Ito. I don't talk about myself in the third person)
Inside Mari (um. okay. weird, when you start off, but very deliberately weird and surpringly tender. Lead me into a crisis about gender and identity and other vaguely human stuff)
And you get one from my partner because he saw me writing this; The Climber. I haven't read it but I've read a bit of the mangaka's other work, Innocent, and his art style is just awe-worthy. Also existential crisis. yeah
Hello Ito!
I don’t know if anyone ask you this before but do you have any favorite quotes? I mean from anywhere: shows, books, movies etc. or ones you just saw online and they stood out to you.
Have a great day!!
Hi!
Oh yeah, like so many of them. Aside from the two obvious finalists, which I have tattooed on me, some of my other faves include:
“Do I not live? Badly, I know, but I live.” From Elektra
“If you care for a thing enough, it takes a life of its own. And isn’t the whole point of beautiful things that they connect to some larger beauty?” From the Goldfinch (paraphrased)
The entirerty of Alex Turner’s love letter to Alexa Chung
“Fighting my way up to your tongue so I can die upon it.” From an unreleased Ethel Cain song
The whole “I love you”//“but do you like me?” scene from Ladybird
“Is it better to speak or to die?” From Call Me By your Name (considered getting it tattooed
“To cure it of sorrow would destroy it. The sorrow is part of its own private task.” From the Minecraft End Poem
That tumblr post that said something along the lines of “you run from grief and then it finds you in the middle of the street on a sunny afternoon.”
“When can I say your name and have it mean only your name and not what you left behind.” From On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous (but to be honest, the whole damn book)
Most of The Picture of Dorian Gray.
“And whatever doesn’t kill you laughs at you for coming close enough to.” From Pete Wentz’s livejournal entries
“I want a cut scene, I want a cut from your face to my face.” from Beach-Life-in-Death
A two line poem my ex partner wrote me once
“Sometimes you shine so bright I must look away, but even so, please let me stay at your side.” From Hunter X Hunter (recent addition. I watched that episode yesterday and i keep muttering this to myself in disbelief at how simple yet pure it is)
And so many others, i could write a book of just quotes i like :))
hi, how are you? what’s ur favorite csh song?
hello :D I've been better, I'll be honest with you.
You said favourite, not best, so Deadlines (Hostile) or Life Worth Missing, purely based on the feeling they give me, even after having listened to them a million times each. It's like. a series of little epiphanies. light.
okay now im curious- top ten theatre plays?

Medea

Midsummer Night’s dream
The Inspector (adaptation of Gogol’s novel)

That I have read:

Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger

The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Hi Ito!
I think you mentioned, that you are a big written horror fan. Do you have any novel or short story recommendations? (The weirder the better)
I do! I'll start with some classics:
Square one for getting into gothic horror would be any anthology of Edgar Allan Poe's work (I'd recommend Tales of Horror in particular), I think there's something for everyone in there. “The Pit and the Pendulum” and "The Black Cat" are two of my favourites. Not sure what people think about Steven King anymore but "Pet Cemetery" was one of the first horror novels I read, and sometimes it still freaks me to think about it. Queen of the "came back wrong" trope.
I consider Mary Shelly's Frankenstein existential horror more than gothic or romantic, and also something anyone should read in their life, so there's that.
Onto more modern stuff, I think Mariana Enriquez's collection "The Dangers of Smoking in Bed" is really great, where psychological horror is concerned.
Also on psychological horror-- "These Violent Delights" by Micah Nemerever (not to be confused with Chloe Gong's YA fantasy book of the same title) truly usettled me. Fucking disturbing bro. Pinacle of how insane gay situationships can be /j
If you want another format, I would recommend Junji Ito's manga ("Gyo"in particular. His adaptation of "No longer human" is also wuite good. heavy changes on the original plot though.)
Also The Magnus Archive Podcast! Have not finished it yet but the first 100 episodes that I have listened to are all short story horrors with an overarching plot connecting to prime human fears. The bug-related stuff fuck me up the most.
Please research the trigger warnings before getting into any of these, for your own comfort and convinience. Have fun :D
