You stand outside Eddie's trailer, double checking that you have the right one, looking at the slip of paper he scribbled his address onto. You'd hate to have the wrong trailer, but sure enough, the correct numbers were on the mailbox.
The grass is long and close to dead, a long strip of gravel going down the middle of it. None of it looks groomed but you have to admit that you kind of like it. It's imperfect, it's real.
A lot of the kids that you go to school with make fun of Eddie for where he lives, but you don't understand why. You're pretty sure they'd feel that way even if he lived in the nicer part of town. This is just another reason to pick on him.
They're all so concerned with what he's doing and you suppose you can't blame him for being so harsh towards you. He's just trying to protect himself and he doesn't know you. To him, you're the girl from the rich neighborhood, the popular one who's always nice but he seems to think that you're faking all of that.
But if he took just a second to get to know you, he'd know that you're nice to everyone including him because that's just who you are. You're nothing but a sweetheart-everyone else's word, not yours-and you're planning on proving that today.
Just as you're about to knock, the door swings open and there's a man on the other side. He's not the same one who you've seen pick Eddie up from school. The one in front of you has got to be his dad because the resemblance is uncanny.
You step to the side as he steps out onto the porch, Eddie following behind. Neither of you seem to be paying you any mind, caught up in whatever conversation they'd been having before the door was opened.
"I told you that I need to go away for a while." Eddie feels like he should have expected this because Alan's always been a coward.
"But you can't leave. The talent show is next weekend. The guys and I have been working really hard." He's teary-eyed now and you wonder if you should just leave. You've already seen way too much.
Eddie doesn't know why he cares so fucking much. Alan has never been a father to him, especially since Elizabeth passed away. Maybe because he always feels like people are leaving and that it's all his fault. Everything is always his fault, it seems.
"If it sounds anything like you do when you play in your room, I'll pass. Take care, kid." Alan gets into his car and Eddie chases it, calling after Alan, begging him to stay. He doesn't get very far and stands in the middle of the road, sobbing as he watches the car get further and further away.
This is just like Alan, always running away from his problems and he doesn't care who he hurts in the process. Now he's not only leaving his son, but he's leaving him in the care of his brother who never signed up for this. He agreed to take in the two of them after Elizabeth passed, but he guessed he should have known this kind of this would happen.
When Eddie turns in your direction, you immediately look away, knowing that he's probably going to hate you even more because you saw something you weren't supposed to. You should just go home and come back some other time but instead of heading towards your bike, you're making your way to him.
You stand in front of him, your own eyes welling up as you look at his tear-stained cheeks. You set your backpack on the ground and stay standing, waiting for him to make the first move.
He doesn't know what he's doing but he finds himself stepping closer, wrapping his arms around your waist as his buries his face into your neck. It feels so natural to him, like he's done is a billion times. And the shocking thing is that you hug him back, even rub your hands up and down his back as you let him cry.
He'd never let himself be so vulnerable with one of his peers, but there's something so comforting about you. You're not laughing at him like the others would have. You're just here, letting him get it all out without a single bit of judgement.
"Do you want to get some ice cream?" You whisper and his ears perk up at that.
"I don't have any money," he sniffs as he pulls back to look at you. He looks as you with those brown eyes, you know that they're going to get you in trouble.
"Don't worry about it," you wave it off. "My treat."
You and Eddie pull away and grab your bikes, agreeing to a race that he totally didn't let you win. And as you make your way towards town after letting Wayne know that you're leaving, Eddie decides that maybe you're alright.

In the two years you and Eddie have been friends, it’s become very common for you to be over at his trailer. It’s become your second home and you know that Wayne and Eddie always welcome you there.
The two of you are in the kitchen making dinner for yourselves since Wayne is at work. A record is playing softly on Wayne’s record player and Eddie is humming along to it as he makes a grilled cheese on the stove.
Light streams into the window from the street lights, casting you in a pretty glow in the low light of the kitchen. Eddie always finds himself getting distracted by your beauty, especially tonight.
You’re wearing one of his sweatshirts and a pair of shorts and he’s embarrassed by just how attracted he is to you at this moment. He’s afraid to just take the chance because he’s Eddie “the freak” Munson and he’s positive that you don’t feel the same way about him.
And why would you? You’re so cool and popular and definitely way out of his league. You’re better off as just friends. Or at least, that’s what he keeps saying in his head just to make himself feel better.
He’s pulled back into reality when he smells something burning. He looks down and the grilled cheese is smoking, the burning smell intensifying.
“Shit,” falls from his lips as he turns off the stove and flips the sandwich onto a plate and holds it out to you. You take it gratefully, smiling at him as you take a huge bite, not bothered by the burnt taste one bit.
When he looks at you, you can see nothing but love in his eyes and you have no idea why he can’t see the same in your own when he looks at you. The way you behave around him feels so obvious but apparently it’s not.
“Delicious,” you tell him with another smile as you set the plate on the counter behind you. “Oh, I love this song! Dance with me.”
You hold your hands out and he hesitantly takes them. He’s never danced before, well, not like this. He’s immediately thrown back to middle school when Wayne forced him to go to the dance. He stood off to the side, getting the guts to ask the girl he was crushing on to dance.
When he finally made himself go over, she just laughed in his face because as if she’d ever dance with a freak like him. He was so embarrassed when she and her friends laughed at him and waited until he got to the bathroom to cry.
But you-you’re not like her. You’re sweet and gentle and kind and your smile is reassuring. You’re taking him through the steps gently, socked feet shuffling across the floor.
The kitchen fills with giggles as you show him one of the dances you taught yourself when you were a kid. You’re surprised you still remember the steps but you’re moving like you’re ten again.
“To your left,” you tell him through laughs and he still doesn’t seem to get it. He understands that you’re not laughing at him and honestly hush loves hearing the sound. It makes him feel less nervous.
His chest bumps yours again and your socks sliding against the floor causes you both to slip, falling to the floor. Eddie lands first right on his back and you’re on top of him, both falling to the floor with a loud “oof” followed by more giggles.
You both stay like that for a beat, so amused by how clumsy you both are and there’s something about being in this position that makes you feel bold. You can’t help but stare at his toothy grin and you admire the way that it reaches his pretty, brown eyes.
You take the chance, leaning forward until your lips find his. He’s shocked at first, so still and you’re convinced that you’re made a mistake until he melts into the kiss, his hand pressing against the back of your neck.
This is everything he’s ever wanted and he can’t help but smile against your lips. You mimic him and he decides that this has to be the best moment of his life. Nothing will top it.
Your lips are soft and he can taste the lip gloss you’ve got on, getting more and more dizzy as you deepen the kiss, hands sliding into his hair.
But your kiss is cut short when the front door unlocks. You both scramble to your feet and Eddie’s trying his best to hide the blush that’s creeping up on his cheeks. You wipe away the lipgloss that transferred onto his lips with the pad of your thumb and the two of you try to act causal as Wayne walks through the front door.
You both share the burnt grilled cheese, greeting Wayne as he enters the kitchen. If he’s suspicious, he doesn’t say anything, just makes himself a sandwich before heading into his room to go to bed, wishing you both a good night.
You head out not much later and Eddie always hates to see you go, especially now that you’ve kissed him. And you give him another before getting into your car and as you drive away, you both know that it will be the first of many.

summary: When you find out that you're pregnant, you're scared to tell Eddie which leads to you ghosting him. But after you tell him the truth, you realize that there was nothing to worry about after all.
cw: mention of pregnancy, teen pregnancy, and throwing up, reader doesn't have a great relationship with her parents, angst, hurt/comfort
word count: 5k+
“Do you have it?” You ask Vickie as soon as she closes your bedroom door. You’ve been anxious all day waiting for her to come over and now that she’s here, you feel a bit better but not much.Â
“Of course I have it.” She retrieves a paper bag from her backpack and hands it to you. “And I got looks from everyone in the pharmacy so thanks for that.” You grab the box from it and hurry to the bathroom, not even uttering another word to Vickie. It’s when you’re alone, that you feel safe to fully freak out, staring down at the pregnancy test in your hands.Â
“You owe me twenty bucks, by the way!” You hear her call from the other side of the door but you just roll your eyes at her.
The tile is cold under your feet as you pace back and forth, staring down at it. And when you finally get yourself to look up, the tree outside the window is still missing its leaves. The tire swing that hangs from it moves back and forth and you’re suddenly six years old again, your parents pushing you as giggles pour from your mouth.Â
But you’re not a kid anymore. Not with this test in your hand. It’s much smaller out of the box-just a little strip- but it feels so heavy, the weight of your decisions pushing down on you. You feel so sick once you’ve gone to the bathroom then set the timer you stole from the kitchen. It’s three minutes. Only a few minutes until your life changes forever, no matter what the results are.
You just keep thinking about Eddie and how he’s going to react. No matter what happens, you feel like you owe him the truth. Either way, you need to be more careful. You’re only sixteen. You shouldn’t be worrying about a pregnancy scare. You should be worrying about that English test you have on Monday.
And you’re much more worried about Eddie’s reaction than the possible baby in your stomach. You don’t even know if you’re going to keep it anyway. You’ve never felt motherly in your life, but when you hold your hands up to your stomach, you wonder what it would be like, imagining your stomach growing larger and larger.Â
Just when you get used to the idea, the timer goes off and the fantasy is wiped away. You’re in your real life now. And when you look down at the two pink lines, you can’t help but let out a scream, so grateful that your parents aren’t home yet.Â
Vickie comes storming into the bathroom and she gasps when she looks down at the test. She really did think it was going to be negative. She thought it was going to be a false alarm and that you could pretend that none of this ever happened. But now that the lines are staring back at her, she thinks that she’s gonna be sick.
You can’t do this. This isn’t what was planned out for you. You were gonna go to college and get a grown up job just like you were expected to. And you were going to live a very boring life because that’s what your parents have always wanted. But fuck that.Â
You actually do think that you were always destined to be a mother. You think of your little sister, Chloe and how you’ve always been like a mother figure to her while your own mother was focused on her career. You were the one who got up in the middle of the night to give Chloe her bottle. You’re the one who changed her diapers and rocked her back to sleep. You’re the one who’s been there for her and now you’re going to be there for this baby.Â
“I think I’m gonna keep it.” Vickie can’t seem to hide the shock on her face because you seem offended by it.Â
“Keep it? I know that you’ve been like a mother to Chloe, but this isn’t even close to the same thing.” You know she’s right but you don’t want to listen. You’ve already made up your mind and you’re not changing it.Â
“Vickie, I know what I’m doing.”Â
“Oh, do you?” She raises an eyebrow as she crosses her arms over her chest. “This is a much bigger deal than you’re making it out to be. This is a fucking baby.”Â
“You think I don’t know that?”Â
“You’re right, I’m sorry. So you’re gonna keep it. What are your parents going to say?”Â
“You know what they’re going to say. They’re going to tell me that I’m an even bigger disappointment than I already am. They freaked out when I told them that I didn’t want to be a surgeon and now they’ll for sure kick me out when I tell them that I’m pregnant.”Â
You put the test back in the box, feeling sick to your stomach as you exit the bathroom. You grab your backpack that’s sitting by your bed and begin stuffing clothes into it, not even caring that it’s all going to get wrinkled.Â
“Well, if they’re just going to kick me out, then I’m gonna leave before they can.”Â
This was a long time coming, if you’re being honest. Your upbringing has been far from perfect. You’ve always been left home alone when your parents had to work. One of your first memories was burning your hand on the stove and from then on, you knew that nothing was right.Â
By the time you’ve got your bag packed, your room is a complete mess, like a tornado tore through it. All of your belongings are strewn across the floor and furniture and you can’t help but feel like everything is falling apart. But this is just the beginning. Once you get out of here, this place won’t be your problem anymore.
Vickie grabs some of your stuff that you can’t carry and follows you down the stairs just as your mother walks through the front door. You pause for a beat before descending the rest of the stairs, making your way towards the front door.
You don’t even bother looking back at your mother as you open the door, expecting to hear her voice, but it’s quiet except for Vickie’s whispers.Â
“Where do you think you’re going?” There it is. How silly of you to think you’d get away with it. Marie is always one step ahead of you. You turn and see her a few feet behind you, arms crossed over her chest. She’s still in her scrubs which means that surgery ran long because she usually changes at the hospital.Â
Her tennis shoe is tapping against the hard wood flooring as she waits for an answer, eyebrow raising, challenging you to stay quiet.Â
“I’m staying over at Vickie’s.” Marie lets out a little chuckle and for once, you don’t feel your body run cold. You’ve always hated the way it sounds-so condescending. But now it doesn’t bother you. Being pregnant has somehow made you more bold, so unafraid of your mother like you were just a few hours ago. Maybe it’s because you feel so grown up or maybe it’s because you know you’ll be kicked out which you have always secretly hoped for anyway.Â
“You’re grounded, remember? You can’t have sleepovers when you’re grounded.” That would normally scare you but not today. You’re stronger than you were before and you’re not going to let her get to you anymore.Â
“Well, I don’t live here anymore so I don’t have to live by your rules.” Her smile drops and you swear you can see all the blood drain from her face. Now that you’re not afraid, she’s got nothing on you.
“I don’t know what’s gotten into you but I’m very disappointed.” That little girl who was always trying to impress her parents, so afraid of failing, is now finally free. Adrenaline is pumping through your veins as you stand up straighter, not letting her tower over you.Â
“Well, the feeling is mutual.” You go to turn to walk out the door but she steps closer, grabbing hold of one of the straps of your backpack, pulling you backwards. It all happens in slow motion-the pregnancy test box falling from your bag and clattering to the floor, Marie picking it up and letting out a gasp.Â
She always just wanted what was best for you and now you’ve gone and fucked it all up. The family’s reputation is ruined and she’s not going to let you get away with it. If you want her to be the bad guy then so be it.Â
You grab the test from her hand and shove it back in your bag, zipping it up so you don’t lose it again. She’s still got a hold of the strap of your bag and she doesn’t seem to like that you’re fighting back.Â
“Fine,” she says, finally letting go and you fall to the floor, feeling tears well up in your eyes as Vickie helps you to your feet. You hurry out the door, Marie hot on your heels as you head to Vickie’s car that’s parked on the street. “And don’t you dare come back!”Â
She means it and you know that. She doesn’t want to be reminded of how badly she failed as a parent. Maybe if she had been more present in your life, you wouldn’t be so hellbent on leaving. And now you’re going to live with your friend and her parents who have always been the kind of parents she wished she and Phillip could have been.
You forget that the passenger door handle is broken so you have to wait for it to be opened from the inside. Once you see Vickie push the door open, you go to get inside until you hear a little voice behind you.Â
“What’s going on?” You turn and see Chloe in the doorway of the house. She’s still in her pajamas since it’s the weekend and she’s clutching her stuffed rabbit to her chest, looking between you and Marie with those big eyes that she always uses to her advantage. They’re already teary and you have to force yourself to look away so you don’t give in this time.Â
“Your sister is leaving.” You can feel Marie’s glare burning into your skin and you stare down at the top of the car where some of the dark green paint is starting to peel off. “For good.”Â
You were really hoping that it wasn’t going to come to this. You were going to get a place for the two of you as soon as you turned eighteen but seeing those two lines changed everything. You can’t raise a baby here. The house is haunted by all of your parents' bad decisions and you just really need to get out.Â
But you’ll come back. Once you have enough money saved, she can live with you and Eddie and the baby and you’ll all be a little happy family. You just don’t have that fight in you right now, especially since you can’t legally take her to live somewhere else because you’re not of age.
You feel something press against you and look down to see that Chloe’s hugging you tight. Your arms wrap around her and holding onto her is just reminding you just how horrible of a sister you really are. You’re really just going to leave her with your parents like that? You’re quickly turning into the kind of person that you never thought you would.Â
“You’re coming back for me, right?” You pull away and crouch in front of her, taking her hands in yours.Â
“Of course I am.” Tears are welling up in her eyes as he hugs you again and you give each other a tight squeeze. You drop a kiss to the top of her head before pulling away, wiping the tears from her face. “You have to be brave for me, okay? I’ll be back before you know it.”Â
You stand and don’t even spare Marie a second glance, trying to mask just how hurt you are when you look back at Chloe as you get into the car.Â
Vickie turns the engine over and the car starts up. You feel tears sliding down your cheeks as you watch your sister sob, chasing the car down the street until she can’t keep up anymore. Her little frame gets smaller and smaller as you get further away and you’re beginning to wonder if you’ve just made the biggest mistake.Â
You turn back in your seat and go to turn up the music that’s playing on the radio to drown out your thoughts. But the knob is broken. Again. This car has been in Vickie’s family for as long as you can remember so it wasn’t surprising when it was given to her for her sixteenth birthday. You have so many good memories here, the whole thing stuck in simpler times.
You look down and notice that you’re still holding the test. This box is all mangled but at least the test is still inside. But you’re not thinking about that right now. All you can think about is your sister and how you feel so fucking awful for leaving her like that.Â
You promised yourself that you’d never do that but here you are. But you never thought you’d be in this situation. You never expected to get pregnant this young and it’s not like you did it on purpose. You really didn’t think that not using a condom just once would lead to this. You really wished you had paid more attention in sex ed because then maybe you wouldn’t be here.Â
Vickie pulls into her driveway and once she turns off the car, she turns to you. Her hand rests on yours, a silent promise that she’ll be here for you no matter what. She’s been one of the only constants in your life and that’s not about to change just because of a baby.Â
She helps you carry your things inside, letting her parents know that you’ll be staying for a while. This isn’t unusual considering your parents. You and Chloe have stayed in the guest room more times than you can count, the Dunne household feeling more like home than your own house.Â
Amelia and Oliver are the parents you’ve never had and they’re honored that you’ve given them that title. They’ve made it clear that this is a safe space for you and your sister and nothing, not even a pregnancy will change that.Â
A week and a half later
Eddie doesn’t know why you’ve been avoiding him for over a week but something is up. You haven’t been in school and all of his calls go to voicemail. He’s tried to give you your space but he’s so fucking worried about you. You’ve talked every day since you got together. Every single night without fail, you call him at six o’clock on the dot. And you talk into the late hours until you both eventually fall asleep. He hasn’t heard your voice in so long that he’s starting to forget what you sound like. Well, he’s not sure that he could ever forget your voice and he’s just being dramatic as always.Â
But he’s worried that he’s done something and fucked it all up. That would happen to him. The one thing he never thought he’d have has just slipped through his fingers. He can’t accept losing you, though. He fought so hard to get you, battling his insecurity to accept that you really do like him and now he’s done something to make you not want to talk to him all together.
“Just call her, man,” Grant says from the couch. The four of them just moved it into Gareth’s garage since Maureen got a new one and insisted that they have somewhere to sit during band practice. It’s a brown leather that creaks with every move, almost like a giant whoopie cushion.Â
Grant is picking at the leather that’s cracked across the cushions, trying to find something to do with his hands since practice is over now. He’s also just trying to zone out because Eddie’s talking about you again. He’s already got twenty dollars in the jar today alone. At this rate, they’ll be able to buy the new equipment they need within the next few weeks.Â
Gareth sits between Jeff and Grant on the couch, passing them each a soda, the cans making a loud pop sound as they open in unison. All that can be heard is the fizzing of their drinks and Eddie’s shuffling around.Â
The garage is getting darker, signaling that the sun is setting and they should all be heading home soon for dinner. Maybe they could if they get this hook right if Eddie would shut the fuck up for five minutes. Since it’s the weekend, it’s just going to be another late night of them having to listen to Eddie whine about missing you just like last week.Â
“I already have, remember?” Eddie replies as he puts his guitar back in the case. He usually loves hanging out with the guys but not right now. He’s tired of all of their judging. “I called her house phone, Vickie’s. I even called Benny’s. Face it, man, she doesn’t want me.”
They’re all close to calling you themselves just to put a stop to all of this. They like you, they really do. But this band is really important to all of them and it’s getting to the point where they feel like you’re just distracting Eddie. He’s not nearly as focused as he used to be and it’s becoming a real problem. When are they finally going to put their feet down and say that enough is enough?
“Did you ever stop to think that maybe she’s just busy? She works two jobs, Eddie. And she goes to school. Cut her some slack.” He knows that Gareth is right but he’s still letting his insecurity eat him alive. In his head, everything is always his fault.Â
“Yeah, she’s probably just busy,” Jeff agrees. “You should feel lucky that she even spares a second for you.
He closes the guitar case and sits on his knees for a beat. He looks at each of his bandmates and they’re all shaking their heads at him. They’re honestly shocked that he’s even here. He spends any spare minute he has with you and knows that he’s whipped but he doesn’t even care. They’re just jealous that they don’t have girlfriends and he’ll put all of the dollars in the jar because he’s so in love with you that it hurts and he doesn’t care how much he talks about you.Â
Holy shit.
He’s in love with you.Â
You pace back and forth in front of Vickie’s desk, staring at the pink phone that sits atop it. You’re about to call Eddie to meet and you feel so sick to your stomach. This has been in the back of your mind since you found out over a week ago and now that you’ve taken a few more tests that were all positive, you feel like you owe him the truth.Â
You feel horrible for completely going ghost on him but you’re just so scared. You wouldn’t blame him for breaking up with you after hearing the news but that’s what you’re so afraid of. Eddie’s made it so clear that he’s all in but you don’t think he ever factored a baby into the situation.Â
You thought this would be happening much later down the line, after you got married. You never imagined being a junior in high school with an unplanned pregnancy with your first serious boyfriend. The future just holds so much uncertainty and you’ve liked being in this little bubble with the Dunne’s for a bit while you figure everything out.
Vickie’s lying on her bed, flipping through a magazine as music plays softly from her stereo. You’ve been at this for thirty minutes and at this rate, you’ll never make it to the movie. Out of the corner of her eye, she watches you pick up the phone and put it back down at least five times. This is getting fucking ridiculous and she thinks even you are starting to realize that.
She’s usually very patient with you but you've been doing this for a week and a half now and she's tired of it. You just need to talk to Eddie and get it over with. Stalling isn’t going to make this any better, especially since you’ve been keeping such a big secret from him.Â
She hates seeing you like this and thinks you need a push-shove-in the right direction sometimes or else you won’t move. She really likes Eddie for you and just wants you to be happy. And you can’t be that if you stay stagnant, ignoring Eddie entirely.Â
She sighs and takes the phone from your hand and dials one of the phone numbers even she now knows by heart and lets it ring, waiting for someone to answer before passing the phone to you. Your hands are shaking as you hear Mrs. Emerson’s voice pick up and you’re so close to hanging up but you stay strong. You’re going to finally rip off the bandaid.Â
“Mrs. Emerson, hi!” Your heart pounds in your chest and the script you’ve written up in your head is all jumbled letters, the whole thing completely forgotten.
“Y/n, so lovely to hear from you, dear! We’ve been missing you around here! Just wait here for a moment and I’ll go get Eddie for you.” You feel sicker than you have all week. You’re actually so close to throwing up that you reach for Vickie’s trash can just to be safe.Â
-
“Eddie, phone for you!” Maureen calls as she opens the door out to the garage. Eddie trips over his guitar case and falls to the floor as he hurries to get to the phone. He gets up and dusts himself off, ignoring the comments from his bandmates as he limps over to the door.Â
Maureen hands him the phone and makes herself scarce so the two of you can talk in private. Eddie presses it to his ear and doesn’t even have to ask who it is. There are only two people who call him here and one of them is at work. So it’s gotta be you. He hopes.
“Eddie, hey.” He can’t help but let out a sigh of relief when he hears your voice, almost feeling tears well up in his eyes.Â
“Hey, sweetheart,” he lets out his own sigh. He used to make fun of guys who acted like this but that was before he experienced it himself. He’s never felt this way about anyone before and can’t believe that he’s lucky enough to experience this kind of love.Â
He doesn’t realize just how much he missed talking to you until he hears your voice. It’s soft and sweet just like he remembers-just like you. God, this has been the longest week and a half of his life and he’s ready to apologize for whatever he did.
“I’m sorry I’ve been ignoring you, I just…I have some news and I’m not sure how you’re going to take it. Meet me at Benny’s at seven and I’ll tell you everything, okay?” Before he can respond and the line goes dead. He checks his watch and it’s already 6:30 so he better get a move on.Â
He hurries back out to the garage and grabs his guitar and backpack before pressing the button that opens the door.Â
“Can’t stay for dinner, Gare. Y/n wants to meet up.” He shoves another couple dollars in the jar before hurrying to his van, tires squealing as he drives off, the rest of the band watching in utter disbelief. Oh yeah, they’ll have that new amp in no time.
-
Benny’s feels so different as a customer. The smell of the burgers doesn’t turn your stomach, the chairs seem more comfy, more cushy. And the coffee doesn’t taste nearly as bad as it smells. You sip on a mug of the stuff as you wait for Eddie, foot tapping to the tune of the clock tick-tick-ticking as the minutes go by.Â
The place is empty besides the older couple who are in the back corner, sipping on the pitcher of iced tea that they always seem to order. Nothing else, just the iced tea. They’re whispering like they always do, almost like they don’t want anyone to hear them. Benny’s not in today and you really wish he was because he always sits and chats with you when the place isn’t busy. That would really help ease your nerves right now.Â
You stare down at your coffee, making up scenarios of how your conversation with Eddie will go. You hope it will go well but you guess only time will tell. Your brain keeps feeding you images of him storming out, ignoring your pleas for him to stay as you chase him to his van.Â
The bell above the door jingles and there he is, your boy. He’s wearing the band t-shirt you told him that you liked one time, his one pair of jeans and those damn Reeboks that he just really needs a new pair of. He makes a beeline for you and you stand, pulling each other into a much needed embrace.Â
You’re warm and smell different, must be a new shampoo. He’s cold and smells the exact same-weed and the gum he always chews to try to cover up the smell. You stay like that for a while, your head buried in his chest, his nose pressed into your neck.Â
You both finally pull away and sit across from each other at your table. Eddie can tell you’re nervous by the way you tap your fingers on the table, leg bouncing as you look around the diner. Whatever you’re going to tell him has to be big and he’s honestly terrified.Â
“Eddie.” His name comes out shaky and he reaches for your hands when he sees tears well up in your eyes. You’re scared and he wants to assure you that whatever you have to tell him, it’ll be okay. He’s here, he’s not going to leave. “I’m pregnant.”Â
Everything freezes at that moment. It’s all quiet and still and Eddie’s not sure that he heard you correctly. Surely you said something else and not that. His brain made it up. Because how could you be pregnant? You’re only sixteen and that’s far too young to have a baby. He can’t be a dad, not yet. He can barely even take care of himself for Christ's sake!Â
Part of him feels relieved because you weren’t actually mad at him but the other part is kinda mad you didn’t tell him right when you found out. But maybe you had every right to hide it from him considering how fucking scared he is right now.Â
“P-pregnant?” The word feels so foreign on his tongue-heavy, weighing it down. Even saying it feels wrong. But maybe it’s a mistake, right? False positives are a thing. “Are you sure?”Â
You open your purse and pull out five different tests, laying them down on the table. Eddie’s heart pounds in his test as he looks them over, each of them positive. You’re always very thorough about everything so the likelihood that you would be wrong about something like this is so slim.
“Pretty sure.”
He picks up one of the tests and holds it up to get a better look, his gaze moving back and forth from it to you. You look pale and very very tired. Here he is only thinking of himself when you’re carrying all of the weight. Not only are you carrying with the thing but you’re going to receive all of the judgement.Â
The dads are never criticized even though it’s all their fault. They have the easy part of creating the baby and even have the opportunity to opt out if they want to. But women aren’t so lucky. If they don’t decide to keep it, they have to deal with the procedure of getting rid of it and have to deal with the weight of that decision. And the same goes if they decide to keep it. Not only do they have to carry it for nine months that has its own set of problems but then they have to give birth which is a whole other thing. And they’ll be judged no matter what you choose.
He needs to stop being so fucking selfish and think about you. He wants to know how you’re feeling, what you need. He finds himself hurrying over to your side of the table, crouching in front of you. You turn your body to face him as he wipes away your tears.Â
“I’m here,” he says, eyes boring into yours. “Whatever you want to do, I’m here.” You don’t say anything, reaching up and pressing your hands to your stomach. Just based on that, Eddie knows exactly what you want to do, a wide smile breaking out onto his face.Â
“I’m going to be a dad,” he whispers.Â
“You’re going to be a dad,” you whisper back. You should have known he’d be this supportive and feel so stupid for worrying about nothing. You don’t know much but the one thing you will always be certain about is Eddie having your back.Â
“God, I love you.” He’s full-on grinning now but it falters when your eyes widen. Once he realizes what he’s said, his eyes widen to, stammering because he definitely just fucked it all up.Â
“I love you too,” you reply with a smile and before you can register what’s happening, Eddie pulls you into a kiss, both of you in a fit of giggles. You may not have any idea what you’re doing, but you’ll figure it out. Your life together is all waiting out there for you and you can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

Tension is high as Alan follows Eddie into the house. He's trying to keep his cool for the kids' sake but internally, he's freaking out. He never expected to see Alan again, hoping that the guy would rot in prison for the rest of his life.
But of course, he guesses that he shouldn't be surprised because his father has always been a leech. Especially when it comes to money. A memory that sticks out is when he got some cash in a birthday card from his maternal grandparents in the mail.
Eddie will never forget the panic he felt when he went into his bedside table and saw that the twenty dollars was no longer there and only after grilling his father, he found out that he was spent on some alcohol. For years, he hoped that the man had changed, but he hasn't and never will.
He can't believe that he spent so many years missing the guy when Wayne was the one who felt like a father to him. He spent so long thinking about what could have been and only with therapy has he come to realize the kind of guy his father is.
"Gigi, can you please take your siblings upstairs?" Your voice is calm but Eddie knows that you're fucking livid. He envies the way you're able to level your emotions when everything has gone to fucking shit.
Gigi gathers up the kids and leads them up the stairs despite her suspicion of the strange man who's in the kitchen. She knows who it is, there's no doubt considering that he could be her dad's clone.
You take a deep breath, your hand grabbing hold of Eddie's to make an attempt to calm him down but it's clearly not working. This is the most angry you've ever seen him and you can't even blame him for it. Alan really hurt him and the man deserves to know how Eddie feels once and for all.
His face is red with anger and Alan doesn't seem to know or care about what he's done. He's always been selfish and tonight is no exception. If it were up to you, he would have been gone a long time ago, but you feel like Eddie needs to let the man know what he's done.
"What are you doing here?" He already knows but just wants Alan to admit it.
"What, am I not allowed to visit my boy?" Eddie can't help but scoff at that, hating to hear those words come out of his mouth. They sound so wrong and fake. Alan has never said anything genuine when it comes to Eddie besides his insults.
"Oh, so you finally want to acknowledge me as your son now that I have my own life? Just tell us what you want and get the fuck out of here already." This is the exact kind of thing that Eddie expected when he thought about Alan showing up out of the blue. Because of course he'd want something that's not just visiting his son the family he created.
"I'm in a bit of a bind." Years ago, he would have given the man anything he wanted but now he's just a small, pathetic man who doesn't care about who he hurts and now he does it as long as he's gaining personally.
"So you came all this way just for some money. You don't care about us or your grandchildren. All you've ever cared about is yourself." Alan is truly flabbergasted by his son's words. He's never been stood up to, especially not like this. That's the main reason why he always came to Eddie with his problems, because he'd do anything to make his dad happy. But apparently that's not the truth anymore.
"That's not true and you know it. I gave you a roof above your head and you never went hungry." Eddie can't help but laugh at that because it couldn't be further from the truth.
"Actually, Wayne put a roof above my head and made sure I never went hungry. You were too busy doing shady drug deals and cheating on mom."
"I never cheated on your mother."
"Oh, so then who were those women I always saw you bring back to the house when mom was at work? You never cared about her, did you? You only stuck around so you wouldn't look like a deadbeat. Well, you ended up being anyway so I don't know why I was surprised."
Alan's jaw clenches as he balls his fists, his facial features mimicking Eddie's as his cheeks turn red. He's never been called out like this and he really shouldn't be surprised that Eddie is so angry with him. He's done nothing to deserve his love.
You feel like you should leave the two of them to work this out but you know that appreciates that you're here for him. He needs you to be the buffer when things inevitably get too heated. You need to hold him back from doing something he really shouldn't.
"Well, you didn't exactly give me anything to work with. You wouldn't play baseball like I wanted you to. All you ever cared about was that nerdy game and your band. By the way, how's that working out for you?"
"It's going great, thanks for asking," yoy reply before Eddie can get a chance. "In fact, they have a show next week."
"Oh, you still need your girlfriend to speak for you?"
"Wife," you correct. "And Eddie doesn't mind if I speak for him because he knows that that means that I care about him, something you'd know nothing about."
"Listen here you little bitch." He stomps toward you, stopping himself once he gets closer, seeing the complete disappointed look on Eddie's face. He's even smaller now as Eddie looks at him, even more pathetic. Alan can disrespect him all he wants, but when he disrespects you, that's where he draws the line.
Everything happens so quickly. One second Eddie's by your side and the next, he's right in front of Alan, his fist connecting with his father's face, square in the nose. You let out a gasp at the action, watching Alan clutch his nose as Eddie rubs his fist.
"You don't get to come in here after years of no contact and you especially don't get to do it and disrespect my wife. Now get the fuck out! I never want to see you again."
"I'm really disappointed in you, kid," Is all Alan says as he makes his way towards the front door.
"Well, the feeling is mutual," Eddie replies as he watches his father leave, pulling you into his chest to comfort you the second Alan is gone. He chose you over his father and he'd do it a million times. You've been there for him through everything and you will continue to until the end of time.

summary: You meet the rest of Corroded Coffin for the first time and it goes a lot better than you expected.
word count: 1.5k+
Eddie opens the front door of the Emerson home where the rest of the band is gathered. This is your first time meeting them and they're honestly surprised that you even exist. And it's not even that they thought that Eddie would lie, but rather that the four of them have never had luck in the romance department. So the fact that you even gave him a chance was truly a surprise.
The living room is the first thing you see as you look to the left. The sun is streaming into through the front window, casting a shadow onto the floral print furniture that you can just hear your mother criticizing in your head.
As you move through the house, you appreciate how there's life in it. There's photos of the family and very many of Gareth at various ages. You just know that he's well taken care of and wonder what that's like-having parents that actually like their children.
The rest of the band is in the kitchen when you enter it, munching on chocolate chip cookies that Maureen has made. They're all laughing about a joke Grant's just told and everything pauses when you come into view. So you are real.
It's so quiet that you can hear their cookies softly hit the cookie sheet they had been resting on because of course they couldn't wait until they cooled. They all just stare in complete shock, almost like you're some sort of alien.
"Hi," you greet as you approach them. You're so much more outgoing than your friend and it's clear that that was what drew him to you. You introduce yourself with that warm smile that always makes Eddie melt and now they get it.
"This is Gareth, Jeff, and Grant," Eddie introduces his friends from behind you, giving them all a look that's trying to let them know that you don't bite. You shake all of their hands and the three of them are just completely caught off guard. There's a girl in Gareth's home and she's not even his. What kind of sick joke is that?
You're pretty and so unlike someone Eddie would be into. You're wearing a sweater and a pair of jeans which doesn't seem at all like something he imagined Eddie's girlfriend wearing. They were all expecting a bunch of black and dark makeup, but you're so soft and sweet and he totally understands the appeal.
They all murmur various greetings and now you understand how Eddie gets along with them so well. They're all so similar to each other and their bond reminds you of what you have with Vicky.
Grant is the one to offer you a cookie which you gratefully take with a smile just as Maureen comes back into the kitchen from the living room, her signature bright smile on her face.
She turns off the timer that's been going off before grabbing a oven mitt from the drawer that's to the left of the stove as the boys move out of her way.
"Well, you must be y/n," she says after she sets the cookie sheet down onto the stove, turning towards you. "I've heard nothing but great things about you. I'm Maureen. I'll be in the living room if you need me. I know the boys can get a bit too rowdy sometimes."
You like her already, knowing that she's very maternal from everything Eddie's told you. And right now, that's exactly what you need considering your own mother. You could see yourself hanging out here a lot, especially since she's made it clear that you're welcome.
"Oh, I don't doubt it," you laugh as she mimics you.
"I've got some cookies here and dinner will be ready at around six and you're more than welcome to stay. There will be plenty. I hope you like pot roast."
This is so different from your own home life that it's almost jarring. Maureen is so welcoming and warm and you can see where Gareth gets it.
"Love," you reply and she gives you a warm smile in return. Once the cookies are taken care of, she heads back into the living room and Gareth leads you and the boys out to the garage. There's a couch that's the same floral print as the one in the living room but it's in much worse condition with many rips in it that are covered in duct tape.
You and Eddie sit there while the others sit in the folding chairs that were brought up from the basement. For once, you feel at ease and you lean into Eddie, taking in the boys who are across from you. He's still getting used to being this close to someone, trying his best not to be awkward about it. Especially around his other friends.
"We were beginning to think that you didn't exist," Gareth says as he leans back in his chair.
"Yeah? Why's that?"
"Well, I mean, girls don't really pay attention to us and we've never had friends who were girls, so I guess it's just surprising is all."
"Well, they're missing out," you say, giving Eddie's knee a squeeze. "You guys are really cool."
Right then and there, you have their stamp of approval, smiles spreading across their cheeks. Never have they ever been spoken of so highly, especially by a girl. A pretty one at that.
The five of you are able to ease into conversation better than you thought you would, all of them explaining how Dungeons and Dragons works and even going as far as inviting you to the next campaign they're starting up next week.
You do end up staying for dinner, admiring the chandelier that casts soft light across the room. She's taken so much time making this house feel like a home and you understand why Eddie spends so much time here.
The table is covered with various dishes including the pot roast and various sides that you make sure to thank Maureen for multiple times. You wonder if next time she'll let you help lighten her load.
You don't remember the last time you had dinner with your family. Probably when you were around Chloe's age. It was before they got really busy with their jobs and they actually had time for you.
You're sitting between Eddie and Gareth and Eddie has gone out of his way to make sure that you're included in the conversation. The four of them tend to talk over each other and he wants you to be able to get a word in, especially since you're here for them to get to know you.
He takes your hand and gives it a tight squeeze, accompanied by a warm smile. He's always been so good at comforting you even though he claims that he's awkward about it.
"So, how long have the two of you been together?" Maureen asks before taking a sip of her milk. Eddie chokes on his own milk, completely caught off guard by the question.
"We're just friends, Mrs. Emerson. But we've been so for three months," you reply as you pat Eddie on the back to help him out with his choking.
"I'm so sorry," she replies. "I just assumed." This wouldn't be the first time, especially since the two of you have gotten closer. But you suppose you can't blame anyone considering how affectionate you are towards one another.
"Yeah, they're only in a relationship in Eddie's head," Jeff laughs, which causes Eddie to stomp on his foot with a glare. He was fully planning on taking that to the grave and now it's all out in the open just like he had nightmares about.
You don't seem to pay any mind to Jeff's statement which is arguably worse. You're probably going to let him down easy in private which is making him sick. His hunger is replaced with nausea and he's so close to excusing himself until you grab hold of his hand under the table, giving it a gentle squeeze.
This is going far better than you could have ever expected. You don't know why you expected them to hate you, mostly because he's been hanging out with you more, taking time away from them. But they've all been nothing but kind and you couldn't be more grateful for it. You really hope that you all end up being friends.
"We're happy for you, man," Grant pats him on the back and this is exactly what he was hoping for tonight. It's all just going perfectly.
After dinner, the boys and Maureen walk you and Eddie to the door. You both of course have some leftovers in some Tupperware containers she insisted you keep as well some extra for Wayne so he has something to eat when he gets home from work.
You find yourself lingering in the doorway, not quite ready to leave and go back home. For a few hours, you actually felt welcome and like you weren't a burden. You didn't have to take care of anything and just got to be a guest.
"It was so lovely to meet you," Maureen says as she pulls you in for a hug. "You're always welcome here."
"Thank you much. I really appreciate that." You give the others awkward hugs before you all head to your vehicles, Gareth and Maureen still at the front door. Yeah, it's safe to say they'll be seeing a lot more of you.

summary: You and Eddie have your first date at the arcade.
word count: 1k
The arcade is crowded when you get inside but it’s comforting from the Indiana cold. You and Eddie are bundled up in your coats but you know that you’ll be shedding them as soon as you start playing games. This is Eddie’s safe space aside from the bright lights and loud sounds from all of the different games that fill the space.Â
He usually only comes here with the guys either after school or on the weekends, the four of them spending hours and many, many quarters on the games until the place closes and everything gets shut down.Â
He’s never brought a girl here, though. And why would he have? He’s Eddie “the freak” Munson and you seem to be the first girl who doesn’t seem to feel that way about him. You’re nothing but sweet and kind and he feels nothing but lucky that you would spend a Saturday night with him. Especially in public.Â
There’s a rack by the door where you put your outerwear and as soon as Eddie’s got his coat hanging up, you’re pulling him along, seemingly not embarrassed at all to be holding hands with him.Â
This is uncharted territory for him. He’s never really held hands with anyone but he has to admit that he loves the way that yours feels in his. It’s soft and warm and he loves when you squeeze his to reassure him. He has a really good feeling about you and just hopes that he doesn’t fuck it up.Â
Luckily, the place isn’t very crowded so you have your pick of which games you want to play. Eddie leads you over to one called Dragon’s Lair and he gestures for you to step up to it. You don’t really have much experience in arcades or with games in general so you actually have no idea what you’re doing.Â
“Ladies first,” he says and you hesitantly stand in front of the machine. Eddie puts in some quarters for you and you both watch the game start up. He stands to the side, watching you struggle and he has to admit that it’s kind of adorable. He watches Dirk die again and again as you fail to get to the next level. He’s almost out of quarters but he couldn’t care less. He’s fully willing to spend all of his money on you. Even though he’s only got three dollars to his name.Â
He hesitantly moves to stand behind you, hands hovering over yours as you turn to look at him. You can see his cheeks turn a bright pink and it takes everything in you to not reach up and pinch them.Â
“Help me.” You sound so pathetic and when you jut your bottom lip out, Eddie’s quickly realizing that he’s wrapped around your finger. After he puts in some more quarters, his hands finally rest on top of yours and they feel so soft and warm. He moves the joystick this way and that as he presses the buttons.Â
Of course he’s a natural but you’re positive that he’s played with more times than he can count because of how easy it seems for him. You’re more focused on the way his hands feel rather than the game and you’re scared that you’re falling for him. He’s so sweet and caring and you wish everyone else could see what you see. Well, whatever. It’s their loss.
He gets much farther than you do but when he eventually dies, you both decide to save the rest of your quarters for other things. As the sun goes down, more people pour into the arcade and you can see Eddie panicking when he sees some kids from school. You’re quick to pull him into the photo booth that’s behind you and he lets out a surprised yelp when you tug on his arm.Â
You put some quarters in as soon as you’re both seated and you barely have time to come up with your poses and the photos are taken. You start with a normal pose, arms around each other as you both smile from ear to ear. Next is middle fingers up which feels pretty on brand for the both of you. You then put your backs together, putting your fingers in the shape of guns to mimic Charlie’s Angels.Â
Eddie’s pretty sure that this is the most fun he’s ever had and he almost doesn’t want it to end. And he feels embarrassed that he’s considering calling you as soon as he gets home. He’s getting that giddy feeling that he’s heard people talk about in movies which he was starting to believe wasn’t real.Â
You’re facing each other now and you lean forward, Eddie mimicking you. You get closer and closer until your lips meet as the camera snaps the last picture. It’s soft and sweet just like all of your other kisses but there’s something pulling you closer, like a magnet. Before you can get too caught up, you pull away with huge grins then exit the booth to collect your photo strips.Â
Eddie pushes the curtain open and once he steps out, he takes your hand and helps you out. You reach for the photo strips and you smile at how cute they came out. This is so going in a frame.Â
You pull on his arm again and he happily follows, suddenly feeling much more confident than he was earlier. You could have any guy you want yet you’re happily here with him. And he’s feeling pretty damn lucky right now.Â
You put a quarter into a claw machine and Eddie can’t help but scoff.Â
“What?” He has no idea that you could win a prize from one of these things with your eyes closed. He’s got Dragon’s Lair and you’ve got this.
“Those things are such a scam, sweetheart. Don’t waste your time.” He watches your every move, fascinated by how you move the joystick and he’s completely surprised when one of the stuffed animals is picked up by the claw and dropped into the receiving area.Â
You grab it with a satisfied smile and hold it out to Eddie. It’s such a simple thing but this is going to be something he thinks about forever. And the moment he takes the stuffed bat from you, he knows for certain that he’s totally and completely falling in love with you.

summary: You get an unexpected visitor while Eddie’s at work who turns everything upside down.
word count: 1.6k+
cw: parental trauma, hurt/no comfort
This is being split up into two parts because i felt like it would be too long for one!
It's Saturday which means that Eddie's at the office like usual. You're watching your weekly movie with the kids which-surprising to no one-is 'Labyrinth.' Again. You try to get them to watch something else but it always circles back to this movie. You blame Eddie for introducing the movie but to be honest, you love it just as much as they do.
The five of you are all on the couch, a bowl of popcorn being shared between you. You've drawn the curtains and the lights are off so it's easier to see the screen on the small tv that you really need to upgrade.
You're between Bridget and James, the two of them continuously reaching for the popcorn in the bowl in your lap. Bridget is leaning her head on your shoulder, scooting closer to you. She's eleven now but still hasn't outgrown wanting to be close to you. In fact, none of the kids have. You're just as close to them as you always have been.
Considering the fact that both Eddie's and your parents weren't exactly present, you each have tried to be the best you could be to your children. Neither of you think you're perfect, but you love them and they love you right back.
When you became a mother, you were so terrified that tou were going to turn out like your own, but when you held Gigi for the first time, you knew that all you'd ever have for her was love in your heart.
A knock on the front door makes you jump. You're expecting a pizza to be delivered but you just placed the order, so you slowly getting up and from the couch. And when you finally get to the door and open it, you hold in the gasp that climbs up your throat when you see who's on the other side.
You feel like you're in some sort of nightmare as thunder and lighting crackle and flash behind him, rain pouring down. You never thought you'd see him again so it's honestly a huge shock that he's here right now-almost like a nightmare. You blink and blink but he just won't go away.
"Alan," you gasp and he has the audacity to smile at you, that sinister look still in his eyes from the first and only time you met him. The years have not been kind to him but you suppose that's what happens when you've been in prison as well as being a piece of shit.
"Oh, you're still here?" Yeah, unlike you, I stuck around.
"Yeah, I am. Have been for sixteen years, but I guess I can't say the same for you." You cross your arms over your chest and it's clear why Eddie likes you. You're clearly very protective over his son and he appreciates that. Eddie's always needed someone like that in his life.
"Sixteen years? Jesus, kid, how old are you now?" He remembers you from all those years ago. You stood up to him and he liked that Eddie has someone so feisty by his side.
He's acting like you just ran into each other out and public and you don't like how he's completely disregarding all of the damage he's done to everyone around him. And he honestly doesn't seem to care.
"Figures that you wouldn't know how old your son is. Now what do you want, Alan?" You don't know why you're entertaining this conversation when that's exactly what he wants. You should just slam the door in his face right now because that's what he deserves.
"Is Eddie here?" He doesn't want to see him to catch up, you know that much. He wants something-money probably. And neither of you are going to give it to him. He deserves to suffer for all of the shit he's caused.
"No, he's at work, so I guess I'll be sending you on your way."
"Wait," he pushes the door back open as you try to close it. "Can I just wait here until he gets back? Please?" The look on his face is identical to the one Eddie gives you when he feels sorry for something-the brown eyes boring into your soul. You've forgotten just how strong the Munson genes are. But the look doesn't work for Alan. It just comes off disingenuous and almost sinister.
"And why the hell would I do that? Whatever you want, the answer is no." You've been such a pushover your entire life, but if leaving home taught you anything, it's that you get to choose who you surround yourself with. And Alan Munson absolutely cannot be trusted.
"Can I at least call a taxi, then?"
You close the door and before he has the time to wonder where you've gone, you open the door back up, holding your house phone out to him as well as a number for a cab company scribbled onto some paper. He gives you a look like he's not impressed and you can't help but scoff in response.
"What, you really think I'm going to let you inside with my kids? I don't trust you and you should be lucky that I'm even letting you use my phone."
"You have kids?" He's really been gone so long that he missed his son and wife raise a family together? He hasn't heard anything from anyone-not even his own brother. Everyone just left him to rot in his cell and he only has himself to blame.
"Yet another thing you'd know if you had been around."
"I was in prison." You hate that he says it like it was something that he couldn't control. He made the choices that put him there and you're not going to let him guilt you into feeling sorry for him. He made his bed and now he has to lie in it.
"Which was your fault. Look, I don't have time for this. So make your call and be on your way. I really don't want Eddie to see you."
You lean against the doorframe as you watch him dial the number before he turns away from you to make it more private. The whole thing is making you feel dizzy and you definitely feel like you deserve a glass of wine after this.
Showing up like this so unexpectedly threw everything and is just so unfair to Eddie. Alan was the one who left so Eddie should be the one to decide whether or not he wants to have a relationship with him. He could have called. He could have written letters, but he didn't. That should have sent a clear message, but Alan's always been the kind to not care about other people's feelings.
He hands the phone back to you just as the pizza delivery guy comes walking up the stairs to the front porch. He hands it over to you as you take it, passing him the cash that you grab from the table by the front door.
You turn and head inside with the pizza, letting the kids know that it has arrived as you set it on the table. Gigi seems suspicious of what's going on with you but she says nothing about it, just thanking you as she takes the pizza and heads into the living room, putting on another movie for the others as they all eat their dinner together.
You plate up a couple slices and let out a sigh before heading back out onto the porch as you hold the plate out to Alan.
"Don't say I didn't give you anything." You don't even give him the chance to thank you before you head back inside. Part of you feels bad for leaving him out there-especially for Eddie to discover but you just don't feel like you should bring this random man inside while your kids are home. You don't care if he's your husband's dad. You don't know him and your kids will always be your first priority.
Eddie's had a long fucking day at the shop. It feels like every single customer had an attitude and he was forced to put on his signature smile and be as kind as possible. That's the part that he hates-having to be nice when he's being cussed out and especially when they tell him he's not doing his job right.
But when he reminds himself that he's doing this for you and the kids, everything feel much easier. He's going to be everything his dad wasn't and he feels like he achieved that when he walks through the door and is greeted with hugs from each and every one of them.
His entire drive home, he's been looking forward to relaxing with the people he loves most. He just wants to sit on the couch with the pizza he's been dreaming about since you told him you were ordering some for dinner when he called you during his lunch break.
But when he gets out of the van as he's pulled up into the driveway, he doesn't expect to see his father sitting on the front porch, eating a slice of pizza from the box that his hard earned money worked for.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He asks as he steps up onto the porch, trying to keep his anger under control. He thought that the silence on his end would make it clear that he never wanted to speak to Alan again, but he guesses not.
This is so typical of his dad, showing up when he feels like he's finally healed his wounds. But now they're all open again, exposed for everyone to see and he fucking hates that he's actually willing to hear him out. He mostly just wants to give him what he wants to he'll get the fuck out. Eddie doesn't need him. He's got you, and the kids and Wayne and that's all he needs. He doesn't want to pursue a relationship with someone who pretended like he didn't exist his entire life. So, he steps up to the door and opens it, inviting his father inside for the first time in sixteen years.

summary: It's Mother's Day and Eddie and the kids make you breakfast.
word count: 700+
The kitchen in the Munson household is busy on this Sunday morning. There’s bits of flour on the floor and aprons, a few splotches of pancake batter on the counter as well as many, many dishes littering every single flat surface. Eddie is working on the eggs while Gigi makes the pancakes, Eddie keeping a watchful eye on her. Liam plating the sausage he made with Bridget is cutting up fruit. James is in charge of letting Eddie know when the coffee is brewed as well as “supervising” because Eddie’s really nervous about the little guy getting hurt and they really don’t need another trip to the hospital this year.Â
The eggs are looking a little rough but that’s never been his specialty. Truth be told, he doesn’t have a specialty because he’s admittedly not the best at baking or cooking anything. And you usually ban him from the kitchen but this is your day so he’s certainly not going to ask you to make breakfast.Â
He’s sent you out to go shopping with his card since he knew you’d try to hover. You always feel the need to take over and he wants to prove that he can do it by himself. The kitchen catches fire one time and suddenly everyone thinks he’s not capable of making a meal that involves the stove.Â
He pulls the pan off the stove and plates the eggs up before turning to see how the pancakes are coming along. They’re nice and fluffy and he knows that the kids definitely got their mother’s cooking skills. Especially Gigi.
“Look at us,” he says once he looks over and sees that the fruit and sausage are plated up nicely. “We did it without a single-” He’s spoken too soon as the bowl of fruit is knocked to the floor by the newest addition to the family.Â
Eddie didn’t even want the little fucker but how could he possible say no to the kids when they begged? And when you were even contributing, now could he say no to his sweetheart? When you look at him with your warm eyes, it’s all over.Â
“Cinnamon! You’re not supposed to be on the counter!” Bridget exclaims as she picks the cat up from the counter and sets him back on the floor. Cinnamon scurries off and Eddie makes a hand motion for Bridget and Liam to back up.Â
Pieces of the bowl and fruit are scattered all over the floor and Eddie’s muttering every single curse word he can think of as he reaches for the broom and dustpan. The kids stand back as Eddie quickly sweeps up the fruit and clay pieces, making sure to be thorough so no one gets hurt before letting them back into the kitchen.Â
“You owe like ten dollars to the swear jar, by the way,” Liam says as he pours some coffee into your favorite mug. Eddie just sighs and puts the broom and dustpan away before putting a ten dollar bill into the jar that’s sitting by the coffee pot.Â
“You guys are bleeding me dry.”
“Not much longer until we can afford to go to Disney,” Bridget smiles as she gives her brother a high five and Eddie just shakes his head. They finish everything up and somehow get it all clean before you walk through the door, your breakfast waiting for you at the table accompanied by handmade cards.Â
They all greet you with wide smiles, wishing you a happy Mother’s Day as you set your shopping bags down on the counter that’s now clean. You feel tears well up in your eyes as you realize what they’ve done for you. It’s the same thing every year but it never fails to make your heart swell.Â
You all sit at the table and eat breakfast together, laughing and talking, and just generally enjoying each other’s company. You even compliment Eddie’s eggs. You read your cards and put them in your keepsake box before you all gather in the living room to watch a movie of your choice, of course accompanied by Cinnamon who curls up in your lap, purring away. It’s the best Mother’s Day just like it is every year.
