The girl, barred from scattering along with the animals by the unwieldy human shape of her, is lying flat and still on the ground with her face pressed in the cold mud, straining her neck to keep watching the torchbearers. She probably isn’t thinking of the fact that she can’t hide from the forest itself as it watches and waits. It doesn’t know why two of its black eyes can’t leave this girl—perhaps because somewhere it hopes she stays right where she is, pressed against its ground.

The woods find a girl on the run, and it sends its very best monster after her.

as for STL, I’m roughly 5000 words in, so we’ll see what happens from here. of the ten scenes I need to write, I have 3 completely done and 3 blocked out. I don’t plan on changing anything, so writing should go smoothly.
