she murmurs it gently, nearly a whisper as the words slip from her mouth. she remembers as soon as she says it that under his skin he’s all midnight fur and powerful limbs and vicious teeth, but that doesn’t change the crimson smeared on his lips, painted down his jaw, even if the river from which it came has dammed itself up.
she steps towards him, and her thumb finds the shelf of bone, wiping some of the blood from his tan skin on to her own. then she leans in, breath rolling inside of her throat, and she catches his mouth in a kiss.
it tastes of quarters and pennies, and god does it make her feel rich to have him like this, his lips warm and soft, his tongue against her teeth. when she pulls back, her own mouth is red like a lioness after the hunt.
