I remember the night he finally understood I didn't love him anymore. Not even in the puppy love capacity. I had broken free a few times before, but always came back because I felt bad. And I wasn't sure what I would do with my weekends after.

We had both played a show at the local coffee and donuts dive. I really wanted to play a Bob Dylan song, You Ain't Going Nowhere. He didn't want to play it. I was angry, annoyed, but kept the show going. It was just another time where our needs didn't meet. Just like the time you got into my car and ejected the CD I was listening to, because it was recored after 1979.

I told him we were over. I didn't want to continue it anymore. He cried asking if it was because he didn't want to play the song. I said, "No. It's not that. It's everything."

I remember him walking away. Into his car. Slipping away.
