Yuji did not really have time to examine the person, nor did he want to. In fact, he never quite paid attention to people around him in a romantic way. There was Ozawa, sure, but Yuji appreciated her instead of fancying, you know? 

And now, his whole being was gravitating towards a person standing aside - and Yuji had to really force himself to keep running. He was in a hurry. Family came first.

But damn. Those eyes.

“Yuji, are you listening?”

Wasuke Itadori, an old man with sharp features and a constant frown on his wrinkled face, took Itadori by surprise. Yuji jumped on his feet, accidentally knocking down the flower vase.

“Oops”.

“Boy, what’s wrong with you today? I mean, I am grateful that you are visiting me but I have a feeling you’d rather be somewhere else”.

Yuji’s cheeks flushed pink as he was collecting shattered glass from the floor.

“And use a goddamn mop! You can cut yourself easily, you know?”

His grandpa stood on the elbow, watching Yuji’s movements with quiet intensity. There was definitely something off about his grandson today - the way he’d suddenly stare into nothing or bite his lip as if remembering something… someone.

“Yuji, maybe you should ask this girl, Ozawa, out? Take her to a movie or something”.

“W-w-what?!”

Yuji jumped again, this time his ears blushing violently. “Why Ozawa??”

His grandpa shrugged and laid back in the bed.

“I dunno. I remember you talking about this girl’s handwriting, huh? You know, it must mean something when you pay attention to such small details about another person”.

Those dark blue eyes. Damn. Yuji totally noticed them.

“I…I really have to go”, Yuji blurted out suddenly, unable to remain under his grandpa’s understanding gaze. Right now, he needed to escape the interrogation - otherwise, his grandpa would squeeze some stupid confession out of him. Something about romance, which Yuji was really trying to avoid as much as he could.

Wasuke grinned. The old man was getting much better so Yuji’s visits were not really necessary for the last couple of weeks - but the boy still went to the hospital every day. 

“Go then. I’m glad to hear you finally have places to be”.

Yuji nodded and jolted out of the room, his heart pounding way too loudly in his chest. He didn’t think where he’d go but now, his body was taking him back to school, as if being pulled to that very place where a mysterious boy was standing.

“An occult research club. Right. They must still be in the building so I’ll just hop in and pretend I changed my mind and decided to join them tonight”.

That was a solid plan. A good plan. Almost brilliant. A perfect excuse to get back to school in case anyone would wonder.

The occult research club was something Yuji surprisingly enjoyed: because it was fun, carefree and he was doing it together with friends. Both Sasaki and Iguchi were mediocre students but they were just excellent at making up all the weird stuff that got all three of them laughing till their stomachs hurt. So Yuji will just check the field… and will head straight to the club.

As expected, the field was empty but Yuji stood there for a bit just in case. Then, with a sigh, he headed back to the school building where he strolled through the near-empty corridors till finally reaching the classroom with an “Occult Research Club” table hanging on it.

“Yo guys, sorry I’m late…”, Yuji started saying as he casually walked in and…

Froze mid-step.

The dark blue eyes were staring right at him. 

“Yuji!” Sasaki beamed and stood up from her chair. “Meet the new member of our club - Fushiguro Megumi. He is a transfer student and is suuuuper interested in occult stuff! Right, Fushiguro?”

“Yes”.

The boy was talking calmly, his voice even and somewhat velvety. Or maybe it sounded like that to Yuji who, right now, was still standing in the doorway, feeling his face becoming embarrassingly red.
