Pirates of Silicon Valley: Movie Review
The movie was about the story of making of personal computers and its continuing growth in industry from which it was based on historical fact with a bit adaptation of dramatic scenes. The movie shows the rise of Apple and its fall, as Microsoft took its place. It highly focuses on the enthralling characters of the two of the most extraordinary individuals of our modern technology era which greatly contributes to the growth of personal computers. It was all started with IBM as the big brother in the computer world that everyone else dreaded from as early as 1980’s. Steve Jobs together with his friend Steve Wozniak, students from University of Berklin, was both interested when it comes to computers. In the due course, they form their own company which was the Apple Computers and first begin making computers in a garage. There is just one problem, Woz has a contract with Hewlett Packard that from anything he invents, Hewlett Packard would take it. Fortunately for Apple, Hewlett Packard hated their small Apple machines as they call it as a gadget just for ordinary people. From then, the mechanisms of progress continued from Apple and it was a victory for them. As businessmen and bankers turned them down for a loan, Jobs was persevered and was then ventured a capital for Apple Computers, that was the start of Apple’s rise. Jobs really want to wipe out the enemy, the IBM. On the other side of the story, Bill Gates, a Harvard student together with his friend Paul Allen having a great interest on computers, started as a writer of program language for the new ALTAIR computer. By then they quit Harvard and from working on MITS- the maker of ALTAIR- they earned signing bonus for their basic programming language, from then they formed a company called Microsoft. Apple and Microsoft first met was during the Computer fair in 1977, where Apple Computer Inc., was the star of the fair. Bill and Paul attended the said fair where Jobs completely ignores Bill as Jobs was completely enamored by fame. As Apple computers bought to levels of attention, money, expansion and success, Jobs became verbally abused with his employees and self-obsessed. Jobs cruelly manipulated apple employees, verbally assaulting in front of others co-employees. The strain of 90-hour work weeks and days of sleepless programming led to many employees rebelling against him. Woz left the company because of jobs attitude he decided to teach computers to school children. Bill on the other hand takes Microsoft to IBM. Bill Gates sells IBM on the idea of using Microsoft's new operating system "DOS" as the operating system for all IBM machines by allowing Microsoft to retain ownership of it. But Microsoft didn’t even have an operating system at that time. They quickly buy one from a reclose for $50,000 and the Microsoft dynasty begins. Here come the Xerox research engineers who developed the next evolution in computers which they not only designed a software that could display graphics on computer screen but they also invented the mouse. Apple’s camp was invited to see the graphical user interface which has been developed by Xerox and Apple naturally stole everything from them. Apple handled the next step in computers and introduced Apple Lisa-named after his child- which earned S100 billion. Bill Gates was terror by the Apple's extensive growth, and took his team to Apple headquarters to talk of an alliance. Bill was success convincing Jobs to collaborate with them as Jobs was fed by the hatred against IBM. Bill easily managed his way into the heart of Steve Jobs, and succeeded to have access to Apples new machines. Microsoft was desperately trying to mend together the Windows operating system from pirated Macintosh software. After few changes, Windows is born. Apple discovers the pirating during a speech publicizing Apples new advertisement campaign for the Macintosh. Bill Gates yells at Steve Jobs for the first time. It was the start where Microsoft start dominating the computer industry. Steve jobs left the company he was helped founded but later on backs on his tracked and now partnered with Microsoft and with Bill Gates.
