I was watching this gifset of Lena's apartment (don't worry no spoilers) **** protectlenaluthor(.)tumblr(.)com/post/188299891768/lena-luthors-apartment **** and there are many things I never paid attention to but I was thinking if you had thoughts on it at all? I just think it's very interesting how it's basically an extension of her office (ignoring the fact that it's probably the same set lol) do you think this is really just her aesthetic or if there's a reason it seems to be kinda sterile?
I got this ask just after the premiere, and I held off answering because I hadn't seen enough of Lena's apartment in action to have an opinion, but the second episode didn't give us much more than that either, so here goes.It has no character. And before you all @ me, let me explain. This is the same set they used for the GC scenes last season, and at no point last year were any of us able to say for sure that it was Lena's apartment rather than James'. Now that we know it's hers, we can see the commonalities between the apartment and Lena's office, but the fact remains that there's nothing of Lena in the apartment. No pictures. No books. No blankets. No flowers.(Correction: I spot one solitary flower, and its an orchid, not plumerias.)We get some tech that manifests when she's using it, but besides that? It barely looks like *anyone* lives there. No cooking supplies. No appliances. I see a roll of paper towels in the kitchen, what may be a blender, but too much detail is lost in the wash out for me to know for sure. It looks like Lena moved from a hotel room into a pre-furnished apartment, or else hired an interior decorator to come in and set it up for her. What art there is, is matte and neutral. Some of the shape designs of fixtures and furniture are stimulating, but even those are muted by the monochromatic palette. Now, I've already posed some questions about the sterility being a possible indicator of ADHD or a coping mechanism for some other depressive aspects of Lena's mental health, but that's just me reaching for meaning.Looking at this apartment, I still wouldn't recognize it as Lena's if she weren't the one standing in it.
