In the basement during a storm I was talking to my mom, and she, struggling with a friendship said something along the lines of, “It’s about time I stop this delusion that I actually matter to these people who I’m lowering my expectations for.” And that just hit me somewhere, because that was how I felt my relationship with Donovan was going, that he would be fine without me and I was hanging on for my own reasons, and I’m coming to terms with that not being healthy. So today I dropped his stuff off, in a feeble attempt to get mine as well, including a game my dad left me before he left us, and his friend yelled at me and slammed the door in my face. I may not get that stuff back ever, but I left feeling stronger, regardless of all the crying.
