“Princess Eirika is my main objective, of course. But you’re the Prince of Jehanna, aren’t you? And that means you’re in Caellach’s way.”
“Wha—?”
Aias swung at his throat. Joshua absorbed the blow with the back of his off-hand shoulder and was sent hurtling to the ground. Blood gushed out of his wound as he scrambled to recover his footing.
“The Prince of Grado showed us everything. You abandoned your life of luxury, obscured your origins, and became a mercenary.”
“I wanted to understand the lives of the people! How could I be a good ruler if I stayed cooped up inside, studying theories?!” Even though Aias’ tone hadn’t been accusatory in slightest, Joshua felt compelled to defend himself.
Even with Aias’ helmet obscuring most of his face, Joshua could see him quirk an eyebrow. “I have the utmost respect for your decision, Joshua. But what have you done to improve Jehanna? A leader who chooses not to use their authority is no different than dead. No — it would be better if they were dead.”
