What if Price and Gaz were Byzantine monks in the 6th century. What if they formed a monastic same-sex partnership. What if they explored each other's bodies and turned faith in something divine into devotion to each other. What then.

i have so many thoughts on mulan but i don’t have the mental bandwidth to write it all down yet
I spend a lot of time thinking about how Christianity arose in a community being oppressed by the Roman Empire, in part as opposition to empire, and then was cannibalized by said empire and turned into a homogenizing tool of conquest, and has been used this way, by various empires and would-be empires, ever since.
Playing to thousands of people felt normal. That was our day, just as getting up and going to work is for most people. It was impossible to understand the madness that other people saw. I’d watch videos of us on YouTube and read articles about us, because, when you’re in that bubble, you haven’t a clue.

I just spent like an hour designing a crest for a fictional town that’s the setting of a story I’m working on lmao.
The story (called Silver Darlings) is a lesbian selkie romance and the town of Sun’s Bridge makes its living off herring fishing (the main characters work as fish gutters during the herring season). The boat in the crest is a sixareen, which were traditionally used in herring fishing, but which would have been mostly out-of-date by the time the story takes place (mid 1800′s). The fish on the sail are herrings (obviously).
I took inspiration from several different real town crests.
This maybe wasn’t the MOST productive thing to work on in regards to the story lmao, but I had a lot of fun making it.
in order to truly understand the history department at this god forsaken school you have to know the cliques:
greek squad: all of them are seniors with neckbeards and don't shower. love ancient greece but are extremely homophobic and constantly erase the lgbt past of greece. they think they sound intelligent because they can correctly pronounce hermes.
fanatical fakes: love the crusades, they're basically all freshman and sophomores. they don't understand a single thing about religion outside of christanity and would definitely assume anyone with a hijab knows how to wire a bomb
roman rioters: the greek squad but more tolerable, if you can speak any latin they'll have a more friendly disposition towards you. tell puns in latin and then get mad when no one laughs. would kick the greek squads ass but they don't want to touch them because they're slimy
true americana: 20th century beyond losers who think anything that happened before wwi is irrelevant. would suck the dick of fdr and probably would take a bullet for jfk given the opportunity. all of them hate ronald reagan but like bush because he was funny
yapanese tomodachi's: talk a lot about things no one cares about. are interested in all east asian history but people think all east asian countries are japan hence the name. can speak some japanese/chinese/korean or vietnamese and will absolutely talk shit about you in that language. are very exclusive and only talk to one another
out of africas: african history is the only good history. wants to kill the fanatical fakes because they butt heads a lot. would die if given the opportunity to travel to their favorite african country. they all dislike me because I've been to three of them and think that I didn't appreciate it enough
euro fuckers: european history focus that forget the rest of the world exists. they're usually colonialism apologists and try to convince you that colonialism was a good thing. got in a big fight during brexit that has left a great divide in the program
civil war buffs: everything before the civil war is important, everything after until the 1900s is also good. a knife fight between the true americanas and them is inevitable. can name every civil war general on both sides. true centerists and will defend that both sides were correct in their convictions. also colonialism apologists, get defensive when you bring up native american genocide
middle east mob: really into the middle east and constantly complain about lack of classes. one time a dude from the mem punched out a fanatical fake because he said something islamophobic. the only people in the department that actually read a newspaper I think. can regurgitate books written about desert storm and the iraq war verbatim. will kill a person who even thinks about making a bomb joke
the indifferent club: has taken classes in all of these disciplines and doesn't particularly hold allegiance to any of them. usually mediators in arguments. the only people who can actually answer a cross discipline question without being a snarky shit. very serious about grades. mostly seniors who've given up
I love listening to people speak in other languages besides English. Many foreign languages have a certain beauty to them, even if I don't understand most of what's being said. (Keeping in mind I've only heard a few foreign languages. At most I've heard 4 or 5 different languages.)
