oh my god what the fuck is wrong with some dudes. guy i staffed a con with for a weekend. seemed cool, friended him on fb for networking purposes. gave me a rec for a phone a few months ago. might have been one of the only times i've talked to him in the past three years. he messages me shortly after asking how the new phone is, i tell him it's good, thank him for the recommendation. we politely chat for a bit, then he...asks for my number for texting. i...uhhhh we're already talking on messenger, like literally at that moment, but ok, i have friends i talk to on a bunch of platforms and am pretty liberal about passing along various means of contact, so figure it's fine.
it's not. he immediately starts blowing up my phone. sending me flirty messages. my danger alarm is sounding. i thought this dude had a long term fiance? and even if they broke it off, DUDE, we have literally never spoken for more than like an hour collectively in three years. the fuck are you doing hitting on me. I DON'T KNOW YOU.
at first i tried to steer him off course but he wasn't getting it, so i've just been... ignoring him, because i'm too much of a coward to tell him off or that he's making me deeply uncomfortable. i thought he had gotten the hint because he hadn't messaged me in like two months, BUT HE WAS BACK AGAIN TODAY. dude. DUDE. leave me alone. you came on WAY TOO STRONG, WAY TOO FAST, and creeped me the fuck out. i finally just blocked his number, which makes me feel like an asshole, but i wasn't sure what else to do.
worst part is that this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened to me. people that barely qualify as acquaintances will randomly pop out the woodworks with their radars set to bonetown. it's always out of the blue, so it just feels like they're going through some checklist of single women they know of and finally got to me. it's incredibly dehumanizing.
