I know it's my fault for being in a parasocial relationship with a person who doesn't even know I exist. I know it's my fault for shipping him with his male best friend. I know it is impossible for them to be a couple in this lifetime, or even in my imagination. I know I shouldn't feel happy or sad about his love life and relationships. I know he will marry his girlfriend someday and start his own family. I know he will be flaunting her everywhere. I know I am supposed to feel happy for him.
But my heart breaks into a million pieces every time I see him with her, every time I see him hug her and kiss her, every time she flaunts him, and every time he is with her.
Maybe it's my fault to love him too much—it's toxic. Maybe it's my fault for feeling happy whenever his best friend looks at him with "heart eyes." Maybe it's my fault to assume they were something. Maybe it's my fault to be so delusional about them being something more than just friends. Maybe it's my fault for seeking love and happiness through them.
It was a really nice, sweet, beautiful dream that made me think, just once, life might not be so cruel. Just once, it gave me a reason to smile. But it was only hope—a broken hope.
My heart is hurt beyond repair, and I know it will only hurt more with time.
