Note: I hope you have a merry Christmas, Lonnie! Please enjoy this fic. Itâs my first attempt at writing Scisaac. And Iâm terribly sorry about the bad pun in the title. I couldnât resist.
Stiles canât help but laugh when he sees how Scott bounces excitedly next to him. âDude, Iâm not sure you need any coffee, youâre way too hyped up already. Letâs just go to the library and study.â
Scottâs face falls. âNo⌠I can get decaf! Come on, Stiles, you promised weâd get coffee first!â
âWell, Iâm not sure you can handle it. Iâm looking out for you, buddy.â Stiles says.
âI can handle it,â Scott says, sounding desperate. âIâll get tea. They do tea, right?â
âI donât know, Scott. Maybe we should just go study,â Stiles insists.
âBut⌠Stiles!â Scott exclaims.
âI know, you want to show your cute puppy girlfriend your new beard,â Stiles says, grinning.
âFirst, theyâre not my girlfriend,â Scott says.
âYet,â Stiles interrupts.
âSecond, my beard is awesome and much more impressive than that peach fuzz you used to call a beard in high school,â Scott says.
Stiles fakes a wounded look. âOh, thatâs just mean! Iâm not sure I can go get coffee now. Iâll need to recover for at least four hours.â
âBut Isaacâs shift will have finished by then,â Scott says with a pout. âYour peach fuzz beard was amazing, Stiles, I swear. Please, can we go see Isaac?â
Stiles smiles. âI donât know⌠itâs a lot to ask. I mean, the cafĂŠ is right there,â he points to the building to their right. âItâs awfully far. I might not make it that far.â
Scott had been so busy with trying to convince Stiles that they should get coffee that heâd failed to realize theyâd reached their destination already. Suddenly his excitement was replaced with butterflies in his stomach. âWhat if Isaac doesnât like the beard?â he asked, frozen on the spot.
âOh, my god, you are impossible!â Stiles said, exasperated. âJust go in, get your flirt on and ask them out for once. Seriously, Iâm sick of the two of you dancing around each other!â
âI canât just ask them out. Theyâre at work, Stiles. Iâm sure theyâre just being nice to me,â Scott says.
Stiles groans. âSeriously?! They keep drawing on your cup. Obviously they like you.â
âTheyâre an art major, I doubt Iâm the only one whoâs cup they draw on,â Scott says.
âThey donât draw on my cup,â Stiles argues.
âThey donât like you because you mocked their scarf last summer,â Scott says.
âIt was like a thousand degrees out! People were melting on the outside and they were walking around in a massive scarf,â Stiles says.
Scott rolls his eyes. âYeah⌠anyway⌠Iâm not asking them out,â he says before walking into the cafĂŠ.
âChicken!â Stiles calls after him. By the time Stiles follows him inside, Scottâs already busy talking to Isaac, so he decides to hang back.
Scottâs happy to see itâs not busy at all in the cafĂŠ and he walks up to Isaac immediately, smiling broadly.
âWow, look at you. I see the hormones have kicked in,â Isaac says, looking impressed.
âYeah, finally!â Scott replies.
âI havenât seen you for a week, and now I barely recognize you. What are you going to look like next time you disappear on me?â Isaac asks.
âI didnât disappear, I went home for a week because I didnât have any classes,â Scott explains.
âWell, I missed my favorite customer a lot,â Isaac says with a pout. âAnd youâll probably leave me again soon for Christmas too.â
Scott nods, looking upset. âYeah⌠arenât you going to celebrate with your family?â he asks.
âWhat family?â Isaac replies. âMomâs dead and my dadâs in jail. No, Iâll work and spend the evening alone.â
âNo, thatâs too sad. Youâll come home with me. Beacon Hills isnât too far and mom always cooks too much,â Scott says without a second thought. It isnât until the words have left his mouth that he realizes just what he asked Isaac to do. âUm⌠I mean⌠if you want to, you can come.â
âI donât want to be a bother,â Isaac says.
âYou wonât be, I promise! The more the merrier, right?â Scott says. âSeriously, just come, even if itâs just for a day.â
âI suppose I could take a few days off. Â Someone has to make your coffee after all, right?â Isaac jokes.
âYes. Iâm a mess without it,â Scott admits.
âSo, itâs settled, Iâm celebrating Christmas with you,â Isaac says, smiling. âDo I have to bring gifts?â
âNo, you donât have to. Mom will probably get you something, but you shouldnât feel obligated to get her something in return. She enjoys getting presents for people,â Scott explains.
âIâd like to get her a little something, as thanks,â Isaac says.
âYou are too kind,â Scott says.
Isaac shrugs. âI like making art, thisâll be a perfect opportunity.â
Scott wants to reply, but heâs rudely interrupted by another customer clearing his throat behind them.
âSome of us are here to get coffee, not watch two freaks flirt,â he says, looking disgusted at the sight of Isaac and Scott.
Before either of them can say anything, the manâs attacked by Stiles and a blonde woman.
âWhat the hell did you say about my best friend?!â they both yell. The insults that follow are lost on both Isaac and Scott.
âMeet my best friend, Erica,â Isaac tells Scott. âSheâs fiercely protective of me.â
âI see. Well, youâve met Stiles, heâs much the same,â Scot says. âTheyâre quite something together. I wouldnât want to make them my enemy.â
âYeah⌠I once pissed off Erica, I barely survived.â
âWhat did you do?â Scott asks.
âYou know Boyd, right? Theyâre dating and I accidentally misgendered him. I knew him when we were kids and I didnât know he was transgender. She got so angry, Iâm glad Boyd protected me or she might have killed me,â Isaac explains.
âYou should see Stiles when people misgender me. When I came out two years ago, everyone kept calling me a girl and heâd attack all of them. He got in so much trouble for it.â
âItâs nice having people to protect you, isnât it?â Isaac asks.
âYeah, it really is. I donât know how I would have done this without Stiles. My dadâs terrible about this. He still treats me like Iâm his daughter. Thankfully Stiles isnât afraid to yell at him,â Scott says.
âMy dad was terrible about me as well. Told me to stop making up genders for attention,â Isaac explained. âIt got pretty bad after a while and now heâs in jail.â
âIâm sorry,â Scott says.
Isaac shrugs. âItâs in the past, Iâd rather look to the future. The future is much brighter and filled with pretty dresses.â They twirl around for good measure, showing off their dress.
âYou do look really good in dresses. Iâm glad today is a dresses day,â Scott says.
âYesterday was a pants day, so Iâm glad you came in today. I like the way you look at me when Iâm in a dress,â Isaac confessed, blushing a little.
âYou do?â Scott asked, a blush coloring his cheeks as well. âWell⌠um⌠Thanks.â
âIâm also really loving your beard. You look so handsome,â Isaac says. âI hope you keep it.â
Scott scratches his beard, blushing. âI donât know yet. I might.â
Scottâs so caught up in his conversation with Isaac that he doesnât even notice that Stiles and Erica scared off the customer and are bonding over their best friends who refuse to make a move and ask the other out.
âLet me give you my number.â Isaac looks around for something to write his number on, before getting an empty cup. âI assume you want your usual.â They donât even wait for Scott to answer before making his coffee.
âThanks,â Scott says when Isaac hands him his coffee. Scott looks at his cup. Underneath the usual little doodle, a little Christmas tree this time, Isaac has written their phone number. âIâll be in a study quarantine for at least a few days, but Iâll contact you when I emerge.â
âIâll be waiting anxiously. Good luck studying, donât hurt that handsome head of yours,â Isaac says.
âIâll try not to.â Scott smiles at Isaac before reluctantly turning around. Heâs met by two, widely smiling people.
âYou got their number? Score!â Stiles says.
Scott pushes him backwards, towards the door, blushing brightly. âTime to leave, you wanted to go study, right?â He can hear Erica laugh somewhere behind him.
âDude, you finally did it! You asked them out! Iâm so proud of you,â Stiles says when theyâre outside.
âI didnât ask them out. I just asked them to celebrate Christmas with us so they wouldnât be lonely. No big deal,â Scott replies.
âWait⌠I have to spend my Christmas with them?!â Stiles says. âNo⌠Scott, I care about your sexlife, but I donât really want to spend the most joyous time of year with Isaac.â
Scott shrugs. âDeal with it, and Iâm not sleeping with them.â
âYet,â Stiles adds.
Scott groans and begins walking in the direction of the library, hoping Stiles will drop this soon. Of course Stiles doesnât drop it. He keeps talking about Isaac until a librarian tells Stiles to either stop talking or leave.
Scott texts Isaac a lot while waiting for winter break to start. He finds out a lot more about Isaac. They share an apartment with Erica and Boyd and apparently those two can be really loud when having sex. Â Scottâs received several cries for help from Isaac.
He also learns that Isaac has one teacher they absolutely hate, and the feeling is mutual. They canât seem to please the teacher, no matter what kind of work they present. Scott counters that story by telling him about one of his own teachers who absolutely hated him and Stiles.
They talk about their childhoods and how they figured out theyâre transgender. Scott tells Isaac about his mother, whoâs been supportive of him since the moment he came out. Isaac tells Scott about the family they found with Erica and Boyd.
The more Scott talks to Isaac, the more he falls in love with them. Every time Stiles teases him about his obvious crush, Scott blushes. He doesnât want to be this obvious about it. Heâs sure Isaac doesnât feel the same way about him. After all, he doesnât even know if Isaac likes guys. Isaacâs a friend and Scott doesnât want to screw up their friendship with his stupid, selfish feelings.
Finally the week before Christmas rolls around. Scott, Stiles and Isaac leave for Beacon Hills two days before Christmas. Being in such a small space as both Isaac and Stiles is interesting, to say the least. Scott has to defuse several small fights between them to make sure all three of them arrive safe and sound at Beacon Hills. The worst fight happens when theyâre thirty minutes from their destination.
âI donât get it. You wear a scarf in the bloody summer, but not in the winter and you dare complain about the cold?!â Stiles says.
âYour Jeep doesnât have heating. Itâs barely more than a piece of rust on wheels,â Isaac counters from where theyâre curled up in Scottâs jacket on the backseat.
âYou did not just insult Roscoe!â Stiles yells. âRoscoe is the absolute best car in the entire universe and it doesnât matter if his heating doesnât work perfectly.â
âYou named this thing Roscoe? What kind of name is that?â Isaac snaps.
Scott groans, this canât end well. âCome on, weâre almost there. Canât you two leave this? Weâll be home soon and then you two can just ignore each other.â
âNo!â both Isaac and Stiles reply.
Scott would be happy that they finally agreed on something, if they werenât so stubborn about their fights.
âPlease? For me? I feel a headache coming up and I donât want to have to go to bed early today because of it.â Itâs a massive lie, but thankfully it seems to work. Isaac and Stiles fall silent and donât say anything the rest of the drive. Scott feels a little guilty about the lie, but mostly heâs happy theyâre no longer fighting.
Finally they arrive at Scottâs home and Stiles lets them out before driving off quickly to see his dad again. Scott suspects Stiles mostly leaves so quickly because he needs some time away from Isaac. Normally Stiles would say hi to his mom before leaving. It hurts a little that Stiles and Isaac canât get along, but Scott wonât push them to bond. Stiles is too stubborn to let his stupid grudge go anyway.
The second Scott enters his home, the smell of Christmas hits him.
âCome, mom must be baking cookies,â Scott says excitedly. He drops his bags by the door and drags Isaac to the kitchen. There are indeed cookies in the oven while his motherâs reading a magazine.
Melissa looks up when she hears Scott hurry over. âMerry Christmas, sweetie,â she says, holding her arms open to hug Scott tightly.
Scott hugs his mother back. âMerry Christmas, Iâve missed you,â he says.
Introducing Isaac to his mother is amazing. Melissa immediately pulls them into a tight hug and the look of surprise on Isaacâs face is both heartwarming and a little heart breaking.
âThank you for having me over,â Isaac says, suddenly sounding a little shy.
âOf course. Any friend of Scottâs is welcome here,â Melissa says, a warm smile on her face. âWhy donât you two get settled, dinnerâll be ready soon.â
Scott leads Isaac to their guest room, which is right next to his.
âYour momâs as amazing as you said she is,â Isaac says. âIs she this nice to everyone?â
âYes. Unless youâre my dad,â Scott jokes. âWeâre both really happy to have you here, I promise.â
Isaac steps a little closer to Scott. âYeah? Are you really happy?â Isaac asks.
Scott nods, blushing a little. Seeing Isaac this close up is something new entirely. Usually thereâs a counter between them. Now Isaacâs right in front of him, thereâs nothing between them and theyâre in Scottâs home. Isaacâs surrounded with everything that Scott associates with home and it makes his heart do somersaults in his chest.
âWhy did you invite me over?â Isaac asks softly. Itâs almost like heâs a little scared of the answer.
âI didnât want you to be alone,â Scott answers.
âIs that all? I donât want to be just a charity case. Erica⌠she keeps saying these things about me and you and⌠I canât help but hope that theyâre true,â Isaac says.
Scott looks down, too nervous to say this face to face. âStiles says things too,â he admits. âThat you like me as much as I like you.â
âSo, you didnât just invite me over because you pity me?â Isaac asks.
Scott shakes his head. âNo. I didnât want to miss you. Getting coffee is the highlight of my day nowadays and I donât even like coffee all that much.â
Isaac lets out a laugh. âYou donât like coffee?â they ask.
âNo. I mean, itâs okay and Iâll drink it when I have a big test I need to study for, but I donât really like it. I just like this really cute and hot barista that serves my coffee,â Scott says. It feels like a relief to finally let it out.
âMy best customer doesnât even like coffee,â Isaac repeats, a smile on their face.
When Scott sees the smile on Isaacâs face, he relaxes. âYouâre going to tease me with that, arenât you?â
âUntil the end of time,â Isaac promises.
âJust⌠donât tell Stiles, okay? Heâs got enough to tease me with already,â Scott begs.
âI think I can be persuaded to keep this hidden,â they say.
âYeah? Do you think a kiss would do it?â Scott says.
âIt might. I think you should try,â Isaac says.
Scott closes the distance between them. The kiss is nothing like he imagines. Thereâs no fireworks going off, no swell of romantic music. It doesnât feel like the world stops turning. Still, itâs perfect. The kiss isnât much more than a nervous peck on Isaacâs lips, and Scott knows heâll remember this moment forever.
âYeah, I might keep it quiet now,â Isaac says. âBut I will demand daily payment of kisses to keep it hidden.â
Scott laughs. âI can do that.â
Isaac presses another quick kiss to Scottâs lips. âEricaâs going to be very happy I finally told you.â
âStiles will be too. Heâs been absolutely terrible about all this. He had no sympathy for me whatsoever,â Scott says, pouting.
âOh, you poor dear. Was Stiles mean to you? Come here, Isaac will comfort you.â Isaac pulls Scott into a hug.
Scott lets himself get hugged by Isaac. It feels amazing to finally be this close to them. Scott almost hopes Stiles will tease him again so he can get Isaac to comfort him.
âSo⌠what does this make us? Are you my girlfriend? Or⌠I donât know. Is there a gender neutral term for this?â Scott asks.
âDatemate,â Isaac answers. âWhich I think sounds cute.â
âIt does, which is why itâs perfect for you,â Scott says.
âAnd I suppose youâll be my boyfriend?â Isaac asks. âIâve never had a boyfriend before, thisâll be a new experience.â
âI was going to tell you that Iâll be the best boyfriend youâve ever had, but I guess the bar isnât very high nowâŚâ Scott says.
âYouâd be the best even if I had had dozens of boyfriends,â Isaac promises. âYouâre Scott McCall, the best at everything.â
Scott blushes and looks away. âYou and Stiles should start a fanclub. Iâm pretty sure the only thing you two agree on is that Iâm awesome.â
Isaac makes a gagging sound. âNo, thank you. Iâll keep my distance from him. He just rubs me the wrong way. I know heâs your best friend, butâŚâ
âDonât worry, youâre not the first person to dislike him,â Scott says. âHeâs an acquired taste and as long as you two donât end up killing each other, Iâm good.â
âI canât make any promises, but I will try to keep the bloodshed to a minimum,â Isaac says.
âThatâs all I can ask for,â Scott replies. âWe should go down, it smells like dinnerâs ready.â Scott reaches out to hold Isaacâs hand and keeps hold of it on their way down.
Melissa doesnât seem surprised at all by the news that Scott and Isaac are dating and happily welcomes Isaac to the family. Stiles is also delighted by the news, even though heâs not happy that Scott chose Isaac of all people to date. Scott gets a phone call from Erica that night, threatening harm to every inch of his body should he ever hurt Isaac in any way. Isaac looks both embarrassed and happy that Ericaâs so protective of them.
That night, Isaac crawls into bed with Scott in the middle of the night.
âIs something wrong?â Scott asks.
âI think I heard Santa,â Isaac jokes.
Scott rolls his eyes and pulls Isaac close. âVery funny. Go to sleep, Iâm tired.â
âI didnât want to sleep without you,â Isaac admits. âDo you mind?â
Scott wraps his arms around Isaac a little tighter. âDonât you dare leave. Youâre staying here.â
Isaac smiles softly, happy with Scottâs answer, and snuggles close to him.
Christmas morning comes, and like every year Scott turns back to his five year old self, excited for presents. He doesnât even mind how Isaacâs giggling over him. He sticks out his tongue and runs downstairs, eyeing the presents eagerly.
âYou really are like a giant puppy, arenât you?â Isaac asks. They dragged the blanket from Scottâs bed down with them and curls up on the couch.
Scott nods. âYep. This is who you fell in love with, remember that.â
Isaac rolls their eyes and pulls the blanket a bit tighter around them
âAre you cold, sweetie?â Melissa asks when she enters the living room.
âNo, maâam,â Isaac answers. âIâm always a bit cold, but mostly Iâm still tired.â
âCall me Melissa,â Melissa says. âI get it. Iâve gotten used to getting up at the crack of dawn on Christmas day. Scottâs been like this since he knew that Christmas morning meant presents.â
âI think itâs adorable,â Isaac says.
âYeah, yeah, Iâm adorable, whatever. Can we open our gifts now?â Scott asks impatiently.
Isaac stays wrapped up in Scottâs blanket while watching Melissa and Scott opening presents. Theyâre happily surprised when they get art supplies from both Melissa and Scott. âYou really didnât have to,â Isaac says. âYouâre already opening up your home to me.â
âNonsense,â Melissa says. âItâs Christmas, thereâs nothing better on Christmas than sharing gifts with those you care about.â
When itâs time for Melissa to open Isaacâs gift, they bite their lip nervously. A lot of work went into the gift, including a phone call to Stiles that Isaac would rather forget. Theyâll never ask Stiles for a favor ever again if they can help it.
Melissa wells up the moment she sees her gift and immediately turns it around to show Scott.
âYou didnât⌠Oh, my god, Isaac!â Scott jumps up to pepper kisses all over Isaacâs face.
âYou were complaining about not having any pictures from your childhood where you looked like you, so⌠now you do,â Isaac explains. They spent so many hours recreating an old photo of Scott and his mom. In the original Scott had long, curly hair and he wore a pink, lacy dress. Heâs posing for the camera with his mum, both of them smiling brightly. Scott had told Isaac how much he loved the picture, except for the fact that heâs wearing a dress in it. After a lot of begging and the promise of free coffee for a month, Isaac had convinced Stiles to sent them a copy so they could paint a picture of it, only now Scottâs hair is short and heâs wearing pants.
âItâs amazing,â Melissa says, looking at the painting again with tears in her eyes. âWords canât tell you how much this means to me.â
Isaacâs beaming with pride, they really picked the right gift for Melissa. âIâm glad you like it. Iâm quite proud of how it turned out.â
âIâll hang it somewhere this afternoon,â Scott says. Isaac can see heâs close to tears as well. âWeâll tell everyone my gorgeous datemate made it.â
Isaac has to hide their face in the blankets, theyâre not used to being praised like this. Before they have a chance to recover, Scott and Melissa sit down on either side of them, enveloping them in a big hug. Itâs one of the best Christmases Isaac and Scott have ever had.
"I came to win" Isaac's way of saying "I decided that I really like and respect you and you're a much better leader than Derek so it's worth the risk to help you even if it means putting my life on the line. Also you're cute."
