Olympic boxing has its first gold medalist!
Sena Irie wins Japan gold, the first gold by a woman in boxing for the country. It’s also the first gold medal handed out for women’s featherweight.
Nesthy Petecio takes home silver to the Philippines.

We have our first medal winners for boxing at the Olympics! No medals handed out yet but we have a pair of semi-finals bouts at the Tokyo games for women’s featherweight and everyone involved is guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
The two semifinal bouts are as followed.
First up we got - Nesthy Petecio (Philippines) vs Irma Testa (Italy)
Petecio has had to fight all the talk girls, I swear. The Filipina is the 2019 world champion. Testa is a veteran of the 2016 Olympics despite only being 23 years old. Should be a fun fight.
In the other semi we got a match up between Karriss Artingstall of Great Britain and Japan’s Sena Irie. Irie, at just 20 years old, has shown some world class poise fighting against more experienced fighters en route to locking up a medal for Japan. Artingstall is a bronze medalist from the 2019 world championships and has been pretty good herself en route to the final.
