Networking - not just an online 'hobby'
Saw this on Haikudeck and something struck me. In these days of social-everywhere, business networking has been demoted to an online pastime.
When I did a real job - brick and mortar - meeting buyers at trade shows or local trade bureau-organised coffee mornings was more than a jolly. It was a great way to keep tabs on the market and those who influenced it.
It was my director's firm belief that we grow as specialist and person by engaging others from within our industry. Same passions, same problems and, most importantly, they were the same as me: real people.
Skype: the death of IRL networking
As we've got more social, those days are in decline. The world is the other side of a Benq 21" screen.
Networking has become:
a LinkedIn post;
a Skype call, or
a HOA.
For those of you who've never done IRL networking, two things:
