Imagine Iris finding you upset after a breakup and taking you out for coffee.
“I got yours with an extra whipped cream, you look like you need it,” Iris would say, putting the cup in front of you and then sat across the table, looking upon your blotchy face with a concerned expression.
You know you should be thankful that she was being the best friend that you could imagine, but seeing the ring on her hand and knowing that her own relationship was perfect as always, it didn’t help. It’s always hard being in love with your best friend, especially when they’re happy with someone else - someone well suited to them.
Picking up the cup, you would take a sip, and then set it back down again. Iris would smile, and you weren’t sure why. Your eyebrows furrowed, and now she started to laugh instead of smile. “What? Do I have something on my face?”
“All over it,” Iris would say, grabbing a napkin. She’d lean in close, touching it to the top of your upper lip, wiping away a smear of whipped cream. And then to your surprise, she would lick it off of the napkin before crumpling it up and throwing it out. “There, that’s better.”
So maybe getting dumped was worth it for that moment alone.
