112 miles away from my vantage point in Bear Valley Springs, CA, this is footage of the Falcon 9 launch on the morning of October 9th, 2017 from Vandenberg AFB. SpaceX was sending up the next batch of Iridium-3 NEXT satellites. Was a beautiful sight to see with the naked eye, especially the 1st stage separation. Canon 7DmkII, 70-200mm lens.
Team Vandenberg supported the successful launch of 10 Iridium satellites on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex-4 on Monday, Oct. 9, at 5:37 a.m. PDT.
SpaceX is targeting launch of Iridium-3 from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The instantaneous launch window is at 5:37 a.m. PDT, or 12:37 UTC on Monday, October 9. The satellites will begin deployment about an hour after launch. A backup launch opportunity opens at 5:31 a.m. PDT, or 12:31 UTC on Tuesday, October 10. Following stage separation, the first stage of Falcon 9 will attempt a landing on the “Just Read the Instructions” droneship that will be stationed in the Pacific Ocean.

LOMPOC, Calif. — SpaceX flew the first Falcon 9 rocket in what could be a launch doubleheader for the NewSpace company. The Iridium-3 mission lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base and saw the third set of 10 Iridium NEXT satellites placed into space.
