It is a fact, a true and genuine fact, that absolutely no one should live in Canada. Remy is annoyed to have taken a job in Albert, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, and even worse to have scheduled his flight out of the country more than 24 hours after his job had concluded. He'd been planning on relaxing at his hotel, but he can't stand it - the whole thing is actually decked out like a log cabin and it drives Remy crazy. Not that the town outside the hotel is any better... The height of the summer tourist season is even worse than the depths of winter. In Louisiana, tourists meant excitement to Remy: easy pick pocketing and easy flirtation. In Canada, the press of tourism is a droning swarm of families and young lovers. 

Remy ducks off the main roads, looking for a place he can get a drink without overhearing some cheerful family's excited discussion of white water rafting or hiking or rock climbing. Even the tiny, respectable local places are packed with that kind of family, though, but Remy supposes that that's what dive bars are for, really: avoiding respectable folk.

The place he finds doesn't have a name displayed, just three neon signs for beer, which is exactly the kind of hole Remy's looking for. Probably the glasses will be a little dirty, the bartender dispassionate and inattentive, but that's fine. Remy isn't the man he used to be anymore, so a dimly-lit bar where he can sit quietly, alone, is pretty much as good as it gets.
