For you scientists or scientist wannabes, give researchgate.net a try. I don't care for the social media point system popularity contest, but there is one very valuable feature. If, like me, you've had to develop your own protocols or regularly run into problems that don't have immediate answers, you can ask questions publicly to the researchgate community and anyone who has touted themselves skilled in that particular area is notified about the question. In a short amount of time, I've seen very difficult questions answered expertly and with varying points of view. This knowledge is invaluable, and the time saved in your life from worrying over a problem is minimized tremendously. Consider giving it a try if you haven't. Even if you don't have an immediate question, maybe you can help someone who does.
