That...comes nowhere near making up for how gross this beat is to watch. It’s so outrageously mean, gets me like Chopper back there. You know what though? It serves a purpose. Very next arc we’re getting into some pretty damn graphic depictions of slavery. Cindry gives you just that little bit of fantastical difference to make a half-step, easing you in to this silly pirate story turning a shade darker. Big picture that’s something Thriller Bark accomplishes well.

A wild zombie on Thriller Bark, Inuppe is a mix of a dog and a penguin who served to protect Dr. Hogback. While not much can be said about the original soul(s) of the corpses, Inuppe was possessed by Sanji, and replicated his personality to the point of butting heads with Jigra (possessed by Zoro). He has been nothing but a corpse ever since losing his shadow.

Just so it’s on the table, I adore Chopper here. He’s the ship’s doctor, not a dedicated fighter. This really does end up being one of One Piece’s more philosophical fights. One where words matter. We don’t see much like this in the series, one of the very few similar examples I can think of being Jinbei/Who’s Who much later.
Agh! Almost got her. How will we ever deal with these pesky zombies?
