It was the height of springtime, trees readying themselves to flower, while the landscape became a smattering of different hues- all rich and lively green. The stone statues of famous Chevaliers past formed a broken circle around the training courtyard where Ravus was practicing with a well balanced sword, an older blade with a sure grip and live steel.Â
The young man was dressed more casually than he typically was when Fenestala Manor received guests, even good friends such as the Lucian prince and his loyal steward- a simple, loose linen shirt with vines embroidered on the cuffs and neckline and worn in trousers that were tucked into his leather boots. Clothes that allowed a range of movement and wouldnât get caught on obstacles, though learning to deal with setbacks such as unwieldy formal attire might as well have been a lesson all unto itâs own.
Fleuret was lost in concentration, moving gracefully thanks to countless hours of drills and practice, his body not quite one with itâs weapon but getting there. When he finished practicing his form, he quick-stepped ahead into a forward slash against his imagined opponent, then side-stepped a counter that might follow, going for the major arteries and ligaments. No move was wasted, no attack without express purpose.
Stopping for a breather, Ravus glanced down at the many blisters and callouses marring the now tougher and more resilient skin of his palm with a satisfied kind of self-assurance.
The sound of footsteps approaching made him raise his head, craning his neck to the side to try and make out the silhouette walking behind the climbing roses.Â
âIgnis, when did you get here?â he asked with a wide smile, carefully setting the sword aside upon the wooden arms rack his mentor had set up for the afternoon.
