Oh, we’ve seen a bit of Sammy over the past week and now finally we’re getting an introduction. Sammy doesn’t really appear in book one, though he’s mentioned several times. 

Sammy has the ability to control minds (he’s not a Telepath though)

He was in the same orphanage as Zach (though Sammy is 10 years older than Zach)

He knew Zach was a witch before Zach knew

He’s addicted to power-sharing (which is what he used Zach for)

At the orphanage he acted as a protector for Zach. Later when Zach left the coven (guess who’s idea that really was) their relationship developed and Sammy made sure Zach wanted to stay with him. This lasted just over a year until Calliope pulled Zach out

Sammy is 110% abusive no ifs, ands, or buts about it

Sammy will do anything to keep Zach and keep him safe (wouldn’t want to damage your favourite toy now would you?)

Zach is the MC of my WIP, Dark Magic. This is just some basic information about him and his past.

Zachary (Zach) Donovan is a witch. His mother died when he was born and after six years in an orphanage he was taken in by a coven and raised until he left at eighteen.

The coven taught him all they could but the laws prohibiting the use of magic meant his education couldn’t extend past theory. So when Zach turned eighteen he left the coven to start practicing magic without dragging his family into trouble.

After nearly two years of being away from the coven, Zach learns they were attacked. Slaughtered. No one survives.

I know I should have done this a long time ago but hey I’m nothing if not ... whatever the opposite of punctual is.

Lukas James Abernathy (L.J. to his brothers)

25 years-old, though as a certain little witch pointed out, he looks older.

Lukas is a Shadow Weaver (more commonly referred to as “Shadow”). He can bend the shadows to his will whether that means creating a weapon, restraining someone, plunging a room into darkness, or travelling through them (commonly referred to as “jumping”).

He’s worked for the council since he was 18, though they started training him prior to that, which means he’s pretty good at his job. His job being to round up the law breakers and bring them in for trial.

Lukas is the third person to attempt to track down Zach. It took him four months.

He is a rule follower but of course someone tests that time and time again.

This is just a little nod in Rumina’s direction. I’ve mentioned her a few times and I think it’s time to actually introduce the woman!

First thing’s first, her name. Rumina is the name of a Roman Goddess who is the protector Goddess of mothers and babies which really just suits the character.

With that out of the way, on to my Rumina.

Rumina is a witch. She was the head of the coven Zach lived with as a child.

For all intents and purposes she is Zach’s mother. She raised him from the age of six after rescuing him from the burning remains of the orphanage. Though because of her dark hair and olive skin they looked enough alike that everyone assumed she was his birthmother. 

She is actually dead in this timeline of the story, however her echo is still attached to Zach so she does make several appearances.

She was quite skilled with potion making and often applied her skills as a healer to the magical/supernatural community.

She is small in stature but well respected.

Siblings: Kora (17), Axel (19)

Witches skilled in Shadow Magic and Blood Magic

Unbeknownst to Zach they have also fallen victim to Sammy and were forced to kill and absorb other witches powers

They’ve absorbed the powers of around 25 witches collectively. Axel has 17 and this causes a lot of trouble for him mentally due to the Echoes. Kora has the other 8 and is more in control of her mental capabilities/state though that doesn’t help them much

Because of this, they may be able to help bring down Isabelle because Zach and Lukas are able to better understand what’s going on in her head from two people willing to cooperate

Kora: smol ball of terror, literally only listens to Axel, will kill to protect him. Way too impulsive for her own good

Calliope Matthews (Cal)

A skilled fighter and also the best fighter Zach knows

Shadow Weaver

Cal spends a lot of time hunting and killing Dark Ones

Cal is Zach's closest friend (still alive).
