I guess all I can do is make my life down here on earth the best it can possibly be, in preparation. I'll make my material wealth the best it can be in these two years, focus on work. Friends are becoming less important to me, there are so few i vibe with these days.
Not only are the residents at my work loving my hair (like I'm pretty sure they set up a secret fan club by now) but my coworkers also are getting a real crash course in my snark. They've gotten to the point of looking at me whenever something happens in the expectation of my delivering some deadpan remark. They know I don't speak much or even make myself known immediately, but when I do I drop a bombshell that's worth listening.
We have radios, too, and I'm hilarious with mine. Once, in the middle of a physical conversation between four of us, spoke into my walkie "This is René; I'm going to lunch," in front of everyone present, then maintained eye contact with one coworkers while I sashayed off. Everybody was completely frozen for a moment, then burst into laughter. Another time, I announced, with a voice as smooth as silk, "René here, commencing shower of resident number 220." I also got notable.jpg faces when I answered the company phone with the prescribed customer service phrase, which I delivered with the same grace.
But this is all made possible with my ability to read my audience like an open book. I know who will appreciate snark and wit and who will just not care, so I can tailor my deliveries to them. My coworkers are all pretty young (most even younger than myself) and some even cynical like myself, which makes them one of my most appreciative audiences. I think I'm an alright fit.
Furthermore, I'm getting good reviews from my mentors and the residents, mostly because of how effortlessly I slip in and adapt to any situation after some cursory learning. That plays right into my ability to learn any skill almost instantly and do everything with easy grace afterward. So, yay.
