@ghostcat3000 so what I’m legit obsessed with is how O got from “I want to be good” to “see you at midnight.” Maybe he vacillated day to day and E was bold at the right time. But I suspect O had a hard time resisting, and thought to himself, if E comes on to me one more time I’m going for it!

I think for him, the game changer wasn’t agreeing to meet him at midnight necessarily but Pro. Perlman’s sexy statues lecture and pointed gaze. My takeaway from that scene, particularly with Oliver’s what-are-you-trying-to-tell-me look at Samuel at the end, was that perhaps Oliver had a realization that reciprocating Elio’s feelings was not “being bad” because it was mutual, natural, and most importantly, not opposed by outside forces. This is the first time for him, I think, that this is the case. What an intense, heady thing.

So what did it say inside? Or is that just between Armie and you, @is-it-a-vide0 ?

Sorry, it’s such slow going. I’m pretty unhappy with my writing at the moment so progress isn’t going as well as I want it too. I have about a 16k chapter of Oliver’s section of Finale just sitting there stinking like blue cheese and this chapter of part one is about 90% done. I feel like I’m writing it one sentence at a time. (screeeeeeams)

If this is an outtake, I need to prepare for the real thing. Truly beautiful, delightful Oliver thoughts - his impressions of Elio on first sight ring so true. This was just sublime! Thank you ��

Ha. I feel like I need to start a lowering-your-expectations campaign like now for I. Allegro con brio. Because I am an over-reacher by nature, I decided that this series would be in Romantic sonata-as-fic form and I’ve been suffering the consequences ever since. As dictated by the form, I. Allegro con brio has to a) set up the theme of the series and b) be primarily about exposition. So there is nothing about it that’s crowd-pleasing. It’s all set-up, taking place in the past where the main romantic pairing haven’t met yet in the story’s present (II. Andante and III. Rondo respectively) and worse, non-linear, and all of that is probably why it’s taking me so long to write. I have to write it so that IV. Finale can mirror it and resolve it appropriately (though that one will be infinitely more crowd-please for reasons) but I also know it’s gonna be one of those work-unbelievably-hard-then-post-cue-crickets type of AO3 jams. I struggle with writing. It’s a lot of work and I am a big whiner so there we are. ANGST.

BUT. Thank you. Thank you for letting me know you liked this out-take. I love Oliver and getting into his head is always such an interesting exercise in romantic restraint. Something I never would have expected prior to starting this thing.

@ghostcat3000 my fave line is the one about O being drawn to people he can’t read right away. I just love the thought that E wasn’t easy for him to read, and O spent time trying to figure him out.
