I’m feeling so many things right now. Angry that it’s frigid white out and ice and wind conditions in April. Angry that I couldn’t even make a quick trip to Minot to pick up my husband from a work trip. Angry he’s stranded there now. Relieved and thankful I’m safe, the dogs are safe and the car seems relatively undamaged. Worried about how we will get it out of a ditch deep in compacted snow. And so grateful for the deputy from the McLean county sheriff’s department who saw me stuck in the ditch, shaking from my spin off the road (and almost flip) and came to help. He let my two corgis sit in the back of his vehicle, let me figure out what I was going to do, and eventually took me all the way back home. And we had a fantastic conversation and I made a new friend! So for that I am thankful. I’m slowly learning that law enforcement doesn’t have to be scary or bad - they can be kind and helpful. Thank you deputy for saving me from the horrible winter weather and out of my stuck car! When the wind and thick ice took my car as I was coming over the top of a hill, I had zero control. I slid and was blown all over the road and nearly flipped. And I was going slow. Conditions were suddenly whiteout as all this was happening. Just crazy. The dogs slept through it somehow. But the good news is, I’m safe as are the dogs. The car seems to be undamaged. Hopefully I can get it and my husband tomorrow with minimal frustration. And I met a super cool deputy who restored my faith in humanity.
