Joe Hagan, author of Jann Wennerās biography, discusses his Paul interview; the type of repetitive questions Paulās received over the years, Paulās feelings on Rolling Stones negative coverage of him, and his legacy. And some other post-breakup things.
āI was asking him questions no one had ever bothered him to ask him. Whatās your opinion on Rolling Stone and the coverage you got, and your relationship to its publisher? And it turned out the way Rolling Stones was betwixt between the Beatles breakup, and they were partisans for John Lennon, and John/Yoko used Rolling Stones as a platform to telegraph their independence from the Beatles ā well, it turns out Paul had an opinion about that, and he felt strongly about it and he didnāt trust Rolling Stones...ā
āNow heās at this stage in his life where heās really wanting to make clear what he believes his legacy is and should be, and where Rolling Stones plays into that, negatively, in his mind...ā
āI found this polaroid in Jann Wennerās archive⦠addressed to āJohann Weinerā⦠and inside was a polaroid of Paul, John, Linda, Keith Moon, May Pang⦠underneath on the polaroid was āhow do you sleep??ā and it was sent to Jann⦠So I went to him and said tell me about this polaroid, and he unpacked the whole story about how he and John reconciled after the breakup⦠and Yoko had asked Paul to go as an emissary to John and say she would take him backā¦ā
Towards the end of the interview, he looks at me and heās like āThis isnāt going to be a whitewash, is it?ā and I said āNo,ā and he said āGood.ā
