The Diviners by Libba Bray
4.5/5
This is definitely one of my new favourite books. I was so intimidated by how many pages it was because I expected it to be an overly drawn out story that would put me to sleep in five pages, but I was so wrong.

Summer Days and Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories by Stephanie Perkins
3.5/5 I went into this book thinking the stories would be very easy, cute reads and was pleasantly surprised to find a wide range of genres, with diverse characters, talking about real issues. This is the perfect book to avoid the dreaded summer reading slump or to flip through lazily at the beach. Heads, Scales, Tongue, Tail by Leigh Bardugo- 4/5 This was probably one of my favourite stories in the whole book. It is adorable while still throwing in some fantastical elements. The perfect start to the anthology! The End of Love by Nina Lacour- 3/5 A very realistic story about love and friendship. My only problem is I felt we didn't get to know anyone, besides the protagonist, very well. Last Stand at the Cinegore by Libba Bray- 2.5/5 This book definitely focused more on the comedic moments than the romantic ones. It had a very similar style of joke as Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews, but a lot of jokes fell flat. Sick Pleasure by Francesca Lia Block- 3/5 I spent most of this book thinking it was just okay, but once I got to the last page I was completely blown away. In Ninety Minutes, Turn North by Stephanie Perkins- 3/5 Stephanie Perkins never fails to write the cutest love stories. Souvenirs by Tim Federle- 2.5/5 I wasn't a huge fan of the love interest, which made me kind of uninterested in how things would end up. I did however love the interactions the protagonist had with his mother. Inertia by Veronica Roth- 2.5/5 While I think this is a creative concept, the lack of character depth and simple writing style made it feel boring. Love is the Last Resort by Jon Skovron- 3/5 This felt like I was reading an old sitcom in good and bad ways. It was a very light easy read, but the dialogue sounded very unrealistic (especially during arguments.) Good Luck and Farewell by Brandy Colbert- 3.5/5 The actual romance in this book seemed unimportant compared to weight of the plot. The characters were very realistic both in what they had been through and how they were handling it. Another one of my favourites. Brand New Attraction by Cassandra Claire- 2/5 I feel like this would have been better suited for a full length novel. It was so rushed I felt like we went from the beginning straight to the end. However, I did think the writing style was very immersive. A Thousand Ways this could all go Wrong by Jennifer E. Smith- 3.5/5 This might be my new favourite Jennifer E. Smith story. It perfectly handled a very delicate subject and was adorable the whole way through. The Map of Tiny Perfect Things by Lev Grossman- 2.5/5 This was another very creative concept but I spent the entire book frustrated that the characters didn't want answers, that the romance aspect was lost on me.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas Mini Review
I now understand why everyone raves about this book. -The beginning was a bit slow for me but once I got into it I couldn't stop reading. -I wasn't a huge fan of the love triangle but aside from that I loved every part of this book. -It is by far one of the most immersive and well thought out fantasy novels I have ever read. -If it weren't currently the middle of the night I would be running to the book store to buy the sequel.
Went on a bit of a break but my posting schedule should be back to normal
5/5
Contrary to its title, this book is about more than the boy next door. Lola is an incredibly well developed character, with a strong voice and very real issues of making hard decisions and growing up. Yet again Stephanie Perkins has created a wonderful balance of adorable romance, and real life. The worst part about this book is that it’s over.

I’ve been craving a cute contemporary book for so long but I have no idea what to read. Help?
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert Review
4/5
After a quick glance at the community reviews for The Hazel Wood it was clear to me that it was a very polarizing book. The main issues people seemed to have were with the character of Alice, and the writing.
I feel like Albert really missed the mark with Alice. It felt like she was trying to create an unlikable character that we could grow to love as “flawed”. However, throughout the book we see Alice being angry, rude, and just all around selfish with no redeeming qualities. Because this does play a part in the plot, and it don’t think it effected the narration I might have been able to forgive it. If it wasn’t for the fact that we were told that she had changed her ways by the end, without seeing any proof that she had. The characters throughout the book were very flat and the only one I felt myself connecting to (Ella) was barely present.
Something else people had very strong opinions on was the writing. Somewhat of an unpopular view (woo hoo I’m special) is that I actually really liked the writing. I thought that it was immersive and had that perfect ominous absurdity that so many classic fairy tales have. Even though there were a few passages that I struggled to understand because things were moving so quickly, I found myself right beside Alice my mind reeling as much as hers. This is definitely a book for someone who values getting lost in really atmospheric writing, over connecting with very complex characters.
Overall, it is risky for me to recommend The Hazel Wood. But if you are looking for a book full of suspense that takes you to another world (with very minimal romance might I add) then you should give this book a shot.
What were your thoughts on The Hazel Wood? Did you love it, hate it, something in between?
Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between
Review
2.5/5
My thoughts on Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between are somewhat mixed. Usually I try not to read books with any expectations, unfortunately I couldn’t help myself this time and I was slightly disappointed in what I got. While I loved the idea of the story, there were many small details that I had a problem with.
