Intersex people deserve the chance to get to know our own bodies. If we decide we want medical interventions, then we should have a right to that, but we need to be given the opportunity to explore and reflect on our own bodies and desires first. That necessitates education, acceptance, and community.
I find it hard to express how heartbreaking it is to have undergone coercive, medically unnecessary "normalizing" treatment without informed consent, and I know my experience isn't even particularly egregious. Too many intersex people have been and continue to be denied safety in their own bodies.
Bodily autonomy for all, forever.
