The internet has been restored to the public in limited amounts. Mobile data is not yet working, only broadband connections have been enabled. Social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. have been geographically blocked, forcing people to resort to using VPNs. Though government reports say the disruption is due to infrastructural damage, Cloudflare has listed it as a government-instructed blackout.
Reports tell us about at least 950 deaths in the past few days.
Raids are being conducted in residential areas, including student hostels, to find and arrest students who were involved in the movement.
Regarding attacks on students, State Minister for shipping, Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury has said "the miscreants attacked the students wearing the uniform of police and security forces to divert the blame on them." (Source : The Daily Star)
One of the most highlighted deaths is that of Abu Sayed, a student who was shot four times by a police officer. He died before being taken to the hospital. His death enraged the general people, and they named him Shaheed (meaning martyr).
Despite video evidence and numerous witnesses, the FIR report filed by police says that he was not a victim of police firing.
The report reads, "The protesters fired weapons and threw chunks of bricks from different directions, and at one stage, a student was seen falling to the ground." (source : The Daily Star)
