Wave Types Vocabulary
Deep-Water Waves -- a wave that travels in water that is deeper than one half of its wavelength
Intermediate Waves -- have characteristics of deep-water and shallow-water waves
Progressive Wind Waves -- waves generated by wind, restored by gravity, and progress in a particular direction
Shallow-Water Waves -- a wave that travels in water that is less than 1/20th of their wavelength
Rip Currents -- areas of rapid seaward-flowing water
Internal Waves -- waves forming under the surface
Standing Waves -- waves that do not progress because they form in enclosed bodies of water
