Interim (process so far).
My process of my first project in DSDN112 hasn't been very successful or constructive. I have been ill for the past week and haven't been doing very much work or research into my designs. I have finally come up with an idea though that is outlined in the previous post in my interim proposal. I haven't carried out any experiments on this idea yet but will hopefully have those all ready by the end of next week so that my tutor (Zane) and my class can help me to further develop my idea. I feel as if there can be a lot that can be developed and there is a lot of room for improvement. As this is only the interim it allows me to get feedback to be able to move forward and make my interactive object much more interesting and creative. I have yet to decide also on the materials that will be put into my 5 individual boxes, but ideas that I have come up with so far are:
Clay, feathers, wax, rocks, plastic, metal, wood, vegetation (leaves, etc), tissue paper, lollies, chili seeds, nail polish, flour, sand, coffee beans.
Using materials/substances like these would allow me to pair the certain textures up with smells that didn't belong to them, which would then make the subject think more about whether the object is more recognizable from the smell or from the touch. They will then have to make a judgment on what the material is before finding out the actual answer.
I am aiming to trick the subject into picking between their senses to allow them to be able to focus on only one sense whilst blocking out the other.Â
There isn't much to note about class sessions as I have been sick so haven't attended the last 3 classes. I have kept in contact with Zane though and told him to check up on my progress on my blog so he knows I still know what I am doing. Hopefully after finding a bit of direction after the presentation tomorrow I will be able to move forward, develop my idea and produce a successful project.
